HAD the full size truck bug!
I wanted a new full size p/u, so I thought....I was looking at Super Duty Fords......Namely a V-10 F-350 Supercab.....I was on a road trip with a friend today, that has a Chevy 2500 w/ a 6.0 liter gasser. He has the instant and average MPG on it.....I watched it fluctuate from 10.9 - 12.2 on the highway! EMPTY! And he is no lead foot. No comparison to my 18 MPG on the gas!!!!!! I'll keep my ranger!

Yeah...if you looking at getting a fullsize...Diesel is the way to go...I am actually surprised by th V10..thought they would be worse than that
My grandpa has an 03 2500 HD chevy that i drove to WV because i thought it would get better gas milage than my truck, and WOW i get 14mpg, and his truck got like 13......
It was a BLAST to drive....too many buttons for me, but it was a very nice truck, i could see myself buying one

im getting 17 to 18 mpg empty highway, non chipped with 37s, (and yes my speedo is corrected for the tire size) i also have a diesel, why would you get a gasser in a full size truck where it has the option of a diesel?

If your getting a full size truck and are worried about mpg, get a diesel. I've got a dually diesel that gets 20mpg and a gasser chevy srw that gets 12-15mpg. The diesel gets almost double the fuel economy and its a much bigger truck.

My girlfrineds stepdad has a 99 350 V10 Stock with a KN in it. Pulling a 24 ft VNose trailer her averages 8-9 MPG on a 225 mile round trip half of it lighty loaded. Really sucks.

Took a road trip this past summer with my Ranger and I got 25 mpg, a buddy following with a 3/4 ton '03 Suburban with the 8.1L engine got 15 on average. I thought that was pretty good for a full size big block truck. If the run was all highway I suppose he would have gotten a bit more out of it, he claims it's gotten as high as 18 mph before.
The Ford 10 cyl gas is pretty hard on fuel but makes a ton of torque. I rented an E350 motorhome with one in it a few years ago and was shocked at how well it would get up and go. If you really want milage, combined with gobs of torque the right answer is to buy a diesel.

Besides the power benefits, I actually like the smell of a diesel better too. I only wish they offered a real diesel in the Ranger here. I'd like to see a good, strong inline 4 cyl turbo diesel in a Ranger. It would make one hell of a tow vehicle compared to what we have now. The problem is I sort of figure they'll drop the whole truck before they design a new engine for it. Ford's more likely to try to pass off some import or Mazda half-breed as a replacement. Look at what they sell as a Ranger elsewhere, while it's got a diesel, it looks to be a Mazda rebadge, like the old Courier was years ago.
