half tempted

OK, I drive by my local Ford dealer every day on my way to and from work. About 3-4 weeks ago, they got an 03 F-350 Crew Cab Lariat in on a trade in. It's lifted about 6", black, the truck looks sweet. They're asking $22,000 for it, and I'm half tempted to take the Ranger in to them and see if they'd trade it and take $20,000 for it. Ranger's trade in value is $8100. Should I try or not? The F-350 is a V-10 by the way, not a PSD

One sure way of getting the utilization up on your truck investment. You'll obviously be getting a second job to feed that monster and therefore be driving even more. Sounds like a good plan to me.

IMO I wouldn't get a v-10, not just because of gas but also upkeep. I can't immagine trying to change the rear spark plugs

Oh I know the gas milage will suck, but I've driven a vehicle getting 8mpg for the last 2 years.

My thoughts are this, with the trade in, it would equal out to about $12,000 in debt for the truck. Finance it for 7 years to make the initial payments low, pay it off in 3-4 years. 22,000 miles, it'll run through about 180-200,000+ miles, last me a while.

This is just an idea that I've been playing with though.

Quick, find something else to play with
put that money you think will go toward payments (and gas)under your mattress and save it. Another sweet truck will come along and then you can pay cash for it

yeah.. i wouldnt go for the V10. If your truck is paid off i'd stick with it.. my biggest regret was getting rid of my 2000 because of that.

I'm not a fan of the V10. My truck at work ('02 F450) really sucks the gas down and it once blew a spark plug out of the head. It just blew out at an idle! The truck was out of service for 7 weeks while the dealer replaced the head and then replaced the block.

if you do pull in and check it out.. DO NOT mention you have a trade in. get their price down as far as you can get it. the first thing they will ask you is if you have something to trade in... say no. once they're at their lowest, then mention you have a trade in. just tell them you changed your mind and you're deciding not to keep the ranger afterall, and want to use it as a trade in.

that's a good one. You have everyone thinking your serious about buying a gas guzzler they can't sell and trading in your trk worth $8100 and only getting $2000 for it. That's a good joke and you really have them believing it.
