Help - stuck in 4WD low!

I've got a 2002 Ranger Off-road. I had to pull out of a driveway that was uphill and icy. When I got to the road on the third try, I couldn't get the truck to go back into 2 WD,

Anybody got a clue what's going on?

Thanks

It will only shift in/out of 4WD low if the truck is in NEUTRAL and your foot is on the brake. It may take a couple seconds to disengage. You should also be able to turn the truck off completely and then flip the switch back to 2WD, when you start it again it will be in 2WD.

Thanks

I'll try those suggestions. I haven't had the truck very long & this is the first time I've had it in 4D low.

It disengages the same way you engaged it.

And if that doesn't work, I found beating on the the transfer case with a tire iron made it comply.

I want to thank you so much for your response to this post. I have a 2005 Ford Ranger that was stuck in 4 low and tried what I knew. Putting the truck in neutral and changing gears was the trick. Thanks so much!!! Saved me time without having to take to an auto repair shop.

Try reversing for a short distance, then shift to neutral while rolling in reverse, relieving any "bind" that may be caused through uneven tire wear, front to rear, works on My 4WD Jimmy, My ranger is 2WD, automatic, in case Anybody is wondering why I am here....

My '08 Ranger Sport, 3 litre V6, 2WD automatic with no AC has a storage area below the center of the dash, it also has a chromed disc about the size of a quarter with a single center hole in it, after owning this truck, with 76 thousand kilometers on it since I bought it new I was wondering what might plug into this outlet?.....I am an old Guy, there is no mention of it in My owners Manual, and 100 miles up a frozen river valley to My nearest Ford dealer, living on the north west coast of Canada....
