How can I give my 1990 Ford Ranger more power?

I am 16 and I've had my ranger for awhile now, and I've notice that it dosen't have a lot of power, It is a 2.9, and I know that they don't have a lot of power any way, but I was wondering if there is anyone out there that could help me, I've noticed that not a lot of people have a performance 2.9, and I would like to have one, if possible, I'm not looking for a power house, I'm still young I don't need a lot of power, but I need a little more umph!

Thanks, anything else, that you can think of, I have a lot of time, but not a lot of money, and I don't have a lot of know how, I have people to help me, but it's them getting the time to help me, and I don't have the time to take to have my truck down, I need almost every day.

the 2.9 isnt a bad engine really.. how about an aftermarket exhaust system? cold air intake, theres a lot of little things that can make your 2.9 a little bit more peppier.

exhaust, like a magnaflow, dynomax or something along those lines. Just be careful of your choice, My buddy used to have an 89 BroncoII 4x4 with the 2.9, he put a glasspack on it and ran it out the side, not the best sound in the world. high flow air filter, remove air silencer in the airbox if you have one. Ignition, efan, underdrives(not sure if anyone makes underdrives for your engine) Those are good starting points and welcome to R-F! -Mike-

yeah i mean its really your preference.. if you want loud go with the flowmaster (40 series is loudest), you want a good sound and performance borla and magnaflow will give that.. to get a better idea on how they sound go youtube and listen to the different types of exhausts.. good luck.

ehh, sell it and get a newer truck...in my experience, spending money to get an old/slow vehicle to go faster, is money better spent on a newer vehicle

so far I've learned this with:
-1972 Honda XL250
-1979 Kawasaki KD125
-1996 Toyota Corolla
-1989 Kawasaki Ninja 600R
-1996 Honda XR80R (well, I'm not trying to make it faster...it's fun as it is!)

I swear I answered one of these threads the other day.

Find the bigger throttle body off the earlier year 2.9's, add an exhaust, an intake. That will get you started. Headers help.
