How many people have borla dumped?

I was just wondering how many people have their borla system dumped? If you dumped it where?...after the muffler, before the bumper, etc?How much did it cost for the install? Hows the sound differ from having tips? Im asking this because i just bought a Borla Pro XS 2.5 C/C muffler and im pretty sure im going to dump it...

why would you dump a borla?

Borlas are definitely the best performing mufflers. I mean, if you dump it in front of the bumper, then it'd be alright, i guess.

By dumping your exhuast, you will lose backpressure. Which equals to lesser torque and lesser "off the line".

If you were go dumped, go flowmaster or magnaflows or gibson. Why spend the extra money when you're gonna LOSE performance.

Doesn't make sense.

HOWEVER, if this is the route you are SET to go, then i recommend dumping it before the bumper.

i dont think anyone here dumps a borla, and i dont know why you would want to...i have my borla split to duals out the back and its plenty loud. I can feel more torque with this setup over my old gibson single swept side...but i paid more for it too so thats to be expected. A flow dumped will give you the same thing as a borla dumped and youll pay a lot less for it. Borla is performance and sound so dumping it will kill half of what you paid for. Instead of dumping it you could do duals out the back and just not put tips....wouldnt look bad either, imo. But if you do dump it i say dump it as far back as you can.

Dumped makes it louder and cheaper to install. Youll notice a loss in torque if you dump it under the cab. And 100bucks for a muffler is getting pricey for most people.

would having it split to duals make the install be expensive? whats a good ballpark in what im going to be spending if i decide with that?

cost really depends on the area and shops...id say expect at least $200 for a good install with stainless piping and do 2.25" piping the whole way....any bigger will lose low end power. Best way to find out is to ask around and tell them you have the muffler, no tips, need a custom Y-pipe to split duals straight out the back. Ask if use do regular piping or stainless steel. Know what your paying for...dont over pay for non-stainless pipe.

I'd dump it iright off the muffler if ur gonna dump it ...and if u do dump iot make the exhaust tube on the dump smaller than the tube comeing off the manifold ....so u won't have to worry about back pressure.... i think all mufflers sound more preformance dumped.. i can't run tips cause i would drag them off but i prefer to have my exhaust dumped... plus it's cheaper i can go by a borla muffler and have them weld on a dump and weld it up for about 25 bucks lol

the reason i want dumped is because im definately getting a body lift to go along with my spindles and i dont want to deal with redoing my exhasut cause its way lower then normal because of the body lift...then on the other hand i still want power gains and better MPG...i have a situation

i do!!! i don't know what model it is(got it used for $20). i don't like a loud exhaust and it is perfect for me. i think that it is a quiet model because i have heard other borla's that sound louder, but still great

Dumping a flowmaster right out of the muffler is not good either, dumping a flow will lose torque as well. I would dump it before the bumper as others have stated.

i think what most of us meant was... if you were going to dump a muffler, might as well be a flo, or mag, or gib... because they aren't as "performance" as the borlas. With a borla, might as well get all you can out of it (with pipes) because they are meant for that... (a la their reputation, power gains, price, etc)

i agree with larson except that the magnaflow is a performance muffler just like the borla only less sound from the mag. Gibson is a performance muffler too...just a slight step down from borla and mag.

Well if you want duals ill recommend what others with borla's recommended to me.

You want 2.25" pipes in and out with duals...any bigger and youll lose torque. Borla doesnt make a Pro XS in si/do that has 2.25" on all the inlets and outlets. SI/DO also makes the system quieter over a si/so XS. Borla does make a SI/SO with 2.25" inlets and outlets...comes in the offset/center style. The shop can make a Y-pipe for after the muffler and run the duals off of that.

If loud is what you want, and you have the borla, at LEAST go lightning style....That should be pretty loud, and shouldnt cost too much, since they dont have to use alot of piping for that style exhaust.

And if your going to do a body lift, do the Exhaust AFTER the lift.

if you noticed a torque drop with the 2.5" pipe you might want to go with stock sized pipe. The Gibson sweptside uses mandrel bent 2.5" pipe so you should be fine i think...cant really speak for what a 3.0 needs for exhaust since ive never changed the exhaust on one.

wait, so a lightning style exhaust isn't as good because of loss of backpressure?

hard for me to say how it would react to the 4.0. I havent personally done it so i dont want to say it would hurt performance. Its better than dumping, as far as back pressure, because theres that near 90 degree bend and then a foot or so of pipe afterward. Lighting style will make it loud (slightly quieter then dumped) and looks cool, imo, but i dont know how much performance it would yield on our engines.

In the end exhaust on our trucks is more about sound than a huge performance gainer so gain a little, lose a little, or stay about the same...sound and style are the major draws for exhaust modification on our trucks.
