How much should I sell my Ranger for?
How much should I sell my Ranger for?
Hey guys, I've got a '96 Ranger that I need to get rid of. I don't really know how much to ask for it. At kbb.com I described the exact condition it's in, and its Blue book value is $5,085.
It's got 161,000 miles on it, the tranny is beginning to go (Still works, but the TC needs to be replaced, possibly the tranny needs a rebuild and of course I will disclose this when I sell it) it has the 4.0L, 4x4, body/paint is great except one rocker panel. Tires are 31" BFG A/Ts with tons of tread left. Brakes are good, tune up is a week old. U-joints are new. It also has a top of the line head unit with top of the line speakers and top of the line, 12 gauge speaker wire.
I really don't know how much to ask for. I don't want to get ripped off, but I don't want it to take three months to sell it either.
Would $4000 be a good asking price? I can always go down, right?
And if any of you have a 5spd 4x4 Ranger in good condition you wanna sell, we'll talk when this is sold.

id say mention that its listed on kbb for 5085, but you're asking 4800 obo. id let it go for about 3800 if i had any takers. like you said, you can always go down in price ( only you need to know that though, you dont have to advertise it that way).
Selling your current truck is not going to get rid of used vehicle problems. The only way to do that is to buy new. You will have to fix something on whatever you buy next. I personally would fix what you have, especially since you plan to buy the same basic truck. Just my $.02.
I made a mistake buying this in the first place.
I wanted a 5 speed to begin with. This is just putting it over the edge.
So you guys think $3,800 isn't ripping someone off?
I mean the interior is immaculate and aside from the rocker panel (You really can't even tell unless you are at ground level) the paint is like a mirror.
I just know some vehicles with a messed up tranny the value plummets like TWA flight 800. I don't know why this would still be at 5 grand kbb.

KBB doesn't seem to do it like that, they just base the price of the vehicle on 4 pre-set prices. poor through excellent.
A totally non-working tranny puts it in the "good" condition which is 5,085$
