How often do you change your air filter? I actualy still have my stock one that im running (now that i took my k&n out). Its 2 years old, still looks clean, should i replace it? I hear some guys change it every oil change, is that nessessary?
I use a fram filter and it's just starting to get dark around the edges. It's got about 8000 miles on it so I'm ready for a change. I take mine out and beat it against the bumper to "recharge" it a bit.

i should prolyl go get one today, ive been putting it off too long. actually this filter i have is older than my truck
i have a k and n 77 series and i wash mine after i'm in the sand or on a dusty trail, but if i'm just staying on the street, i clean it every oil change or so. it takes just a few min, why not clean it
ive heard that if you bend the fliter so the fins fan out and look at a light through it, if you can see light your still good, if not its time for a change...
whered you got for that? FOrd?... i checked out autozone and the fram ones are like 30, so im putting mine off even longer lol....

I checked my stock filter the other day and found some small pellets that looked like rat crap in my air box.
But yeah, I just changed what looked to be the original filter at 28,000 miles. It was getting black along the edges.

When you should change an air filter has nothing to do with how many miles you've driven on it. You change it when it gets so dirty and clogged up that air will not easily pass through it. How fast it gets dirty depends on your driving conditions. The more you drive on gravel and dirt roads or off-road, the faster the filter will get dirty. Some people can go 40,000 mi. or more before needing a new filter (or before needing to clean a cleanable one) and some people can go only 3,000 mi. or less. Look at the filter. Then bang both sides on a flat hard surface to get off as much dirt as you can. If you can see through the filter media when holding the filter up to the sun, and if, when you put your mouth against the filter media and gently inhale you can easily inhale air through the filter media, the filter should still be good.
