I have to leave my 2000 Ranger sitting un driven for two weeks at a time at different location .Someone tried to hot wire it but all they did was destroy the bottom steering column panel and destroy air bags. So, Ive been leaveing it parked with the battery removed, a rear wheel removed on a floor stand and a club, My first question , Can I damage the electrical system by removing the battery like this? Of course I dis connect the negative cable first then disconnect positive cable when removing battery and when replacing battery I connect positive first then negative. Does this damage electrical system?
I tried to get alarm installed but was told I need a dome light to connect alarm, the dome light is busted out, I was told the doors dont have (activator pins?) the doors cant be used for alarm.
Is it ok to switch coill with spark plug wire on dist. cap?
What are good ways ways to disable truck even if I have to remove parts? Thanks

Pull the fuse for your injectors.
If nobody is around and someone wants to strip parts its gonna be tough to prevent that.
There are threads on here for a hidden kill switch, if you search the forums. That's another option. Rangers are pretty tough to steal but anything is possible with enough time. I think your club and tire approach is probably the best you will get, you gotta make it look like a job that isn't worth the criminals time.

Without the correct transponder key in the ignition, it ain't gonna start, even if they try to hot wire it. Fords "Anti Theft" system in your 2000 actually works very well.

Not a problem

That actually is a good way, fools most people, but again, without the correct transponder key in the ignition, there won't be any spark anyway.

First you have to except the fact that it will happen, and you will get pissed off, but thats what insurance is for
Banks have been trying to prevent robberies since there were Banks, and so far NO good, and its actually WORSE, they locked up the vaults so tight that robbers now have to come with GUNS when the Bank is open to steal the money, which can end badly for a few people

In South Africa cars got such good theft prevention systems that thieves switched to Car Jacking, which also can end badly

So not sure you will be helping the situation by doing anything but locking it and leaving it, as is
Get extra insurance and hope you don't need it

As said the PATS system will prevent all but the best thieves from taking it
If its a 4x4 you can leave it in 4high
If its a 2WD then thief can just tow it away by lifting the back

Casual thieves and vandals will just beak the windows and trash the wiring or worse when they can't get it started
Parking in high visibility locations is best way to prevent this

I have a friend who likes to go out hiking alot and leaves his vehicle for a week or two at a time in remote parking areas
He's been hit a few times over the YEARS, maybe 2 times in 10+ years
He now puts a Game Camera hidden near by to see if he can catch anyone in the act, not that it would prevent it, but hasn't been hit since, lol,
And no one has stole the Game Camera yet, although I threaten to all the time, lol

Hi, thanks for responding. My Ranger does not have a transponder key or any type of alarm.

You must have a 2.5l 2000 Ranger, the Ranger 4cyl models didn't have PATS until mid-2001 when the 2.3l 4cyl Duratec engines were used
All V6 Rangers got PATS in 1999, and was optional in 1998, but never seen one, lol

You can pull out the Fuel Pump Relay and PCM relay in the engine fuse box, PATS disabled fuel and injectors, so same thing

If you have an automatic you can pull the Brake sensor fuses, 9 and 13, in the cab fuse box, this will keep the shifter Locked in Park, I think just pulling 9 would do it, you need to test that

You can get 2000 owners manual here: https://www.ranger-forums.com/genera...1-models-3747/

The easiest and fastest one is pulling the EEC fuse in the underhood fuse block. Find the fuse that powers your ECU, which on my 93 is labeled EEC and is a large 30 amp fuse. Pull that because even if you toss the thief the keys to the truck it will just crank all day long since the computer isn't powering up the fuel and ignition system.
