How to prevent theft of offroad lights?

One of my buddies had some offroad lights stolen off his truck because all someone needed was a rachet and a socket to take them and run. Well Im gonna be gettin some offroad lights (probably for x-mas) and i was wondering how i can prevent them from theft. I thought about tack welding the bolt and the nut, but then i wouldn't be able to remove the lights if i needed to later down the road. Anyone else have an idea?

KC makes locking bolts for theirs. Or use some crazy shapped nuts to hold them on.

got-dirty 12-01-2005 08:23 PM

where you gonna put them? on a roof bar? of front bar?

a311fanam 12-01-2005 08:34 PM

i shall have my waag bar next week

ryanrebel125 12-01-2005 08:41 PM

a gun would help to prevent them from being taken.like a month ago my friend was at work at olive garden and some kids stole his brushguard and lights off his single cab ranger.caught the kids and made them put them back on so.no matter how hard they are to get off if someone wants them badd, there gonna take them.

Maybe rig up some small razor blades?

a311fanam 12-01-2005 08:59 PM

a gun is harmless if you dont catch them... and no i wouldnt carry one on me lol!!

ryanrebel125 12-01-2005 09:12 PM

i thought it was a good idea.

Flyinfx4 12-01-2005 09:18 PM

Get a Bull Bar, its a pain in the a** to get the the lights taken off in any sort of short time frame. lol.

Redneckstone 12-01-2005 09:25 PM

different style nuts...

Skyjacker_44 12-01-2005 10:34 PM

we tack weld on the nut and if u need to to come off torch the nuts and twist with a cresent wrench

You could mount them behind your billet grill, that's what I plan on doing. But since you're getting a waag bar I guess that sort of defeats the point a little.

Trigger01 12-03-2005 01:39 PM

I too am planing on putting mine behind my grill and I definately like the gun idea. When I turn 21 I wanna get my CWP anyways.

KARPE 12-03-2005 02:04 PM

I say Tack 'em, then torch 'em when you need to take them off.

FauX 12-03-2005 02:29 PM

Eppoxy. It wont just unscrew and if a theif sees that he won't even attempt to get it off.

http://www.kchilites.com/store/images/lightlock.jpg

I have them for my waag and KC's. Still havn't installed the lites, but the locks are pretty cool. about $30-35 for a new set. Only down side: anyone can buy the lite locks and just use the key to unbolt your over priced awesome lites.

Blhde 12-03-2005 04:08 PM

drill a hole through the bolt/nut and insert a padalock

i dunno its an idea

jtslmn720 12-03-2005 08:19 PM

red locktight..... ****s impossible to get off unless its heated for like 20 mins... or do that weld thing....

quest51210 12-03-2005 08:34 PM

lotta loctite and an alarm. if you mod your truck any an alarm is a must but usually the last thing folks get

Redneckstone 12-03-2005 08:37 PM

do not lock tite lights your asking for trouble when just trying to take them off yourself

quest51210 12-15-2005 12:55 AM

cotter pin...sorry to bump an old thread but it just hit me

NHBubba_Revisited 12-15-2005 11:56 AM

What does the cotter pin buy you? Any theif that is going to have a wrench handy surely could have a set of needle nosed plires too. It might slow them down.. but surely wouldn't prevent anything!

Redneckstone 12-15-2005 11:57 AM

ditto

rngprerunner 12-15-2005 12:00 PM

Are you people weak or what? Red locktite is no where near impossible to get off. Every bolt that I'v installed on my truck has red locktite on them, and I'v taken most of them off at least once.. heck one even vibrated off!
