I was at the junk yard today and found leather Explorer seats, a rear chrome bumper, and an explorer OHC. Everything looked like it was in really good condition except the driver's seat had a small tear in it at the seam. The seats and OHC are from a 2000 Explorer XLT and the bumper is off a 99 Ranger. What do you think of these prices, are they fair?

Leather Seats (for both front) : $75.00
OHC : $30.00
Chrome Bumper : $100.00

 

Oh, here are pics of the seats. I didn't think to get pics of the OHC or bumper.

 

OHC is within the ball park, make sure you get the mounting plate and as much wiring as you can get.
Seats seem to be about right, but do you really want one that is torn?
Bumper I couldnt tell ya. Havent had to buy one.

 

I dunno, it's a pretty small tear, and there's not much selection in the junkyards around here.

 

If you alright with it id say go get the stuff! lol A little tear isnt a big deal if your cool with it.

 

I can't afford to get all of it this week. I know for sure I want the OHC, so I'll definitely get that, and my wife wont raise hell for spending $30. lol

 

Hmm I'm no seeing the tear in the pics so they look pretty good. When i once went to get seats they wanted 150$ each so your price is good. The chrome bumper? IF it includes valence, then 100$ is good. Make sure you get mounting hardware if needed.

OHC price is legit.

 

seats price is good. payed 80$ for my set of mounty's, and they have a little flaw. so finding good seats for a good price is pretty hard. I'd get them. make sure the seat track motors work.

and what junkyard were you at?

 

The tear is on the driver's side, right about where your thigh is, right at the seam. I couldn't get a good angle to take a picture from the driver's side, so unfortunately you can't see it directly, but in the second picture, if you look close, you can see a kind of bubble. That's where the tear is. I'd say it's about an inch and a half long. Other than that tear, the leather is in pretty good shape. No spider webs, blemishes, or anything like that.

Since those are power seats, do I need to get anything special if/when they get pulled out? My Ranger is power-nothing. This junkyard does all of the pulling for you, no wrenching required, but I'd want to make sure that I get everything needed, and I'm sure I'll have to tell them "make sure you get this and this". My driver's seat leans to the left pretty bad, so I'd love to replace them with these Explorer seats.

For the bumper, my truck has its bumper, but my wife bent it up backing into another truck's brush guard, so I should have everything I need to bolt it up.

The crappy thing about all of this is I have a 97 Explorer Eddie Bauer that still runs just well enough that I can't justify parting it out...

Williams and Sons Auto Salvage. It has a Greenville address, but they're more in the Simpsonville / Fountain Inn area, kinda south of the Donaldson Center if you know the area.

 

wiring them up is easy. they'll disconnect the harness at the floor. the harness has TWO prongs in it.. you can snip the harness off because it'll leave two wires. one is power, one is ground, cant remember which is which. ground the ground between the seat track and the bolt in the back that holds it down. you can run a wire from the battery, with an inline fuse, to the drivers seat, then split it and run it to the passenger. you might have to drill out the holes a little bit on the tracks, but thats the only thing involving that. ground both seats individually, and make sure you watch where the wires come through the seat track, because if you go to move the seat back so far or forwards, depends where you route it, it might rip the wire right out. its hard to explain, but thats the best I can. if you need any help, pm me.

and check out lkq in greenville for an OHC. they don't have any seats as of last week, dono about OHC's though. its a you pull it, so you can make sure you get what you need.

 

Sweet, thanks for the tips! I checked out LKQ about a month or so ago but wasn't real impressed with what they had. They have a really nice setup, and everything is really easy to get to, but most of their trucks have been stripped pretty clean. Williams and Sons is the second junkyard that I've been to around here. I've got a date tomorrow with Dixie Auto Salvage in Easley (if they're open) to see what they have. I'm still pretty new to the Greenville area, so I dunno all of the junkyards yet.

 

I went to lkq for the first time last week and got a shorty expo console for 30$, which was all I could have asked for. they didnt have crap for anything else. not a huge selection. but yep, they have a nice setup. I dont know how often they cycle in new stuff. I went to dixie a while back to get an ohc, and he told me $50 with all the wiring, and he said no temp sensor. went and got one here in my town for 25, and everything. dixie has a nice selection, and their service is great, but I dont really like the prices. and not all junkyards have good prices.. a select few do. so it takes some exploring to find good prices. don't settle for a really steep price, considering there is junkyards everywhere down here lol.

 

Someone on another forum told me about Dixie, Lauren's Auto Salvage, Gray Court Used Auto Parts, and of course, Williams and Sons, but those are the only ones I know of. Feel free to point me towards others!

 

bishop in chesnee is my favorite. guy that owns it is super helpful, and lets me pull my own stuff, but its normally they pull. karparts in inman is also good. those two are my most used. I dont have the time to drive to lkq or dixie all the time.

 

Inman is real easy to get to from where I am in Taylors. I've never been to Chesnee, but it doesn't look like it's too far. I'm in Spartanburg usually once a week at least, so I should be able to check these two out soon. Thanks!

I was really leaning towards getting the OHC and doing it plus my plugs and wires this weekend, but I'm thinking I'm going to do the seats now, instead. The plugs and wires can wait another couple of weeks. It'll be nice to put some kind of mod in my signature.

 

I just picked up the seats today since they were closed this weekend and here's what I got for $75

I didn't notice these "dents" in the driver's seat before, but oh well.

 

for some reason, mine have some dents like that, its really weird lol. the pretensioner things are useless, and I cut mine off. you can see it hanging off the back. not bad man. I can help you wire them up at the meet if you want to wait till then.

 

Yeah, that would be cool. I appreciate the offer. Do I need to bring anything other than the seats? Spare wire, stuff like that.

 

yeah, bring lots of wire. if you go to oreillys or autozone, they have in line fuses with like 30amp fuses, get one of those. I think I ran 12 gauge from the battery to the seats, then split into 14 or 16 gauge, I dont remember. but, always a bigger wire from the battery with an inline fuse. make sure the in line fuse's wire is the right gauge for that battery wire. you can do whatever gauges you want though, thats your call. also some things to connect wires, like butt connectors, etc etc. worst comes to worst, we have to make a trip to the parts store, which should be close.

 

that tear doesn't look too bad. patch it up soon though so you don't accidentally make it worse.

 

$75 isn't bad. there is a u-pull it about 45 minutes from me and i can get pairs of seats for $35. as for the "dents", someone laid something on the seats. they should come out after some time.

if you want to fix the seat, let me know. i can probably get it back close to original without a lot of work/money.

all in all, not a bad pick!
