Humming sound after truck is shut off.

Alright here it goes: Today i went into town to pick up a few things, the truck had been running for approximately 20 mins when i got home. I backed up, parked it, then shut it down......Well almost exactly after i turned the key to shut it off, there was a humming noise. I thought, "that was weird" So i started it up again, then shut it down: same sound. I dont know what is going on with it becuase i have noticed strange sounds with it lately. I was kind of thinking it may be my starter. Every once in a while i'll go to start it and it dosent want to start nice and easy like it usually does, like the starter vibrates and shakes the whole truck, its weird, and hard to explain. But if it keeps doing this i may just take it to the dealer. Hopefully my Limited warranty will cover it...But does anyone know whats up with it? Or anyone experience these similiar problems?? Thanks for input.

When you hit 88mph does your truck go back in time? If not then its definatly your flux capacitor... time to upgrade to a Mr. Fusion, helps with gas milage anyway..

Ok, seriously now... gator was just screwin' with ya.

That is a crazy sound you are describing. So your saying you shut the truck off walk away, and its buzzing?

All I can say to do is go to Blockbuster and rent the Back to the Future Trilogy and watch it while you are waiting for your truck to be done at Ford...

Ok, we've narrowed it down to something non-mechanical then.

Does it do it with the truck off/key on? will it do it with the key out of the ignition?

i'd try to eliminate the hu/audio system so you can further troubleshoot. also, do you have an aftermarket alarm installed?

offhand, the only things i know that could be making any sound would be a malfunctioning door dinger, which i think is in your gem (behind your dash, to the left of your radio and to the right of the steering column. if you remove your center bezel, the noise should be much more apparent, assuming its coming from behind the dash...

Yeah i doubt its coming from the H/U. Well i drove down to the exhaust shop, and to a friends house after, and it didnt make the noise. Idk its weird. But when it does it, it sounds like the truck isint shutting off properly. Like something is shutting down too late. Just kind of like a hum, only for 1 second of time.

I'm not sure about the 4.0 but my 2.3 had an auxilary electric fan. It's possible that since right after you turn the engine off it's still hot that the efan (if you have one) is kicking on for a few minutes.

i doubt this is what you have, but i installed a f150 cd player in my 99, and the cd player has a fan on top that whenever theres a power on, ie. lights, the fan is on and humming, only when everything is turned off does it stop

Could be the air conditioning. They do that sometimes. Were you running the A/C? If so, make a run with the A/C completely off. If it stops, then that's what it was.

When you shut down, the gases buzz back through the coil and you can hear it. It's often louder in the engine bay than in the vehicle, when you can hear it there at all.

It was on for a bit, but then after i got in the truck later i turned it on, then shut it down....Same noise. And i have never noticed it before. But, i got home a few hours ago from driving it for about 35 mins with no A/C or air on (windows down) it did not make the niose when i shut it down.....its really strange.
