I need the rumble!! (Exhaust Question)

Ok, I was looking under my truck today, and noticed a few things.

A:) My Muffler case seems to be open on the sides, I'll get pics while I'm out..

B:) I don't have a heat shield for the muffler, is that stock for '98? And what is it's purpose of shielding?

C:) I want more of a rumble from my truck, not louder, just a rumble, any under $40.00 things I can do?

IronRanger92 03-31-2007 12:57 PM

buy a used flowmaster and weld it in yourself.. that or go to a junkyard and search around.. usually they'll let you get it cheap.. thats what i did, picked mine up from a my work, (junkyard)

Hawklore 03-31-2007 03:15 PM

Oh.. and I can't weld.. lol

RockysFord 03-31-2007 03:25 PM

Your muffler is open on the sides????? what?

your best bet to get good rumble for under 40$ is to cut off your exhaust......

Thats all your going to get for 40$

just cut off the muffler and leave the cats or cut the cats and leave the muffler. and also have turn downs so the sound echos off the ground give it a lil more deeper tone i got the 4 bagger just with the 70 serise flow master dumped with no cats and its sounds like such crap and i love it

Hawklore 03-31-2007 05:51 PM

Sawsaw to cut it off? Should I cut it off after there is something supporting it, or right after the muffler?

go to your local muffler shop and ask how much to get a turbo muffler with install you dont need the whole exhaust or anyhting shouldent be more then 60 bucks installed just save for a week or so and look for change..

my muffler shop installed a used flowmaster with some pipe to the axle with a turn down for 70 bucks for everything

i just got my flow series 40 with turn down put on my truck and i did it myself, plus the muffler was GIVEN to me by a friend that went borla...cant argue wit the rumble it makes on my 4 banger...just alil louder then stock but sounds awsome...so save your money and go flow or if u want loud and dont care about sound go cherry bomb, or check out there new turbo muffler for like 23 dollars at JC whitney

Hawklore 03-31-2007 09:19 PM

What would be a muffler shop around here in Jax?

And a junk yard? West Side of town I guess?
I'm in the Mandarin Area.....

Lol..

I didn't have anyone to teach me these things, my dads a computer geek. :31:

timpat92855 03-31-2007 09:26 PM

Phone book....works wonders, and so does internet...find anything u wanna know from those 2, lol its what i had to do...

Needforspeed3685 03-31-2007 09:54 PM

I've found all of my parts for my 5.0 swap with research on the internet. I've also sold lots of my parts from my 2.5 using the internet. Get to know it.....it can be useful.

Go to www.google.com and type in "auto salvage in Jacksonville, FL"

bwester04 03-31-2007 10:54 PM

a Flowmaster 40 series si/do DUMPED will get your truck to rumble (for a V6 anyways)

franger 04-01-2007 07:49 AM

why not try a glasspack, i did. and it actually sounds pretty good, its not to ricey, and it still gave it a better sound than stock. my glasspack was 35 bucks and then i had to buy clamps.

anyways, good luck

Sawzall is 5.98 at wal mart. I just hacked mine off, sounds decent for what it is. Turndown is next!

Hawklore 04-02-2007 09:20 AM

I mentioned it to my mom,

She goes,

Oh jeez, Josh please don't, those things are so annoying!

LOL

So like I said, not TOO loud..

How about some audio from other V6'ers?

redranger4.0 04-02-2007 09:38 AM

I had a cat back gibson on my 2005 and it was exactly what your looking for. its more expensive then 50 dollars, though. But it had that nice rumble down low, but it wasnt droning on the highway or anything.

0sixsport 04-02-2007 03:41 PM

here's mine. It only burps because it's in park.

Sounds like a perfect canidate for a Gibson product, not to loud, but louder then stock

Honestly, the Borla on a 3.0 isn't very loud. On the 4.0 it's a whole other story and has a completely different sound.

thanks man. It only does it in park though and i barely ever rev my engine. Mine friends magnaflow gargles a lot more, even at idle.

DangaRanger99 04-02-2007 04:08 PM

My magnaflow pops when im downshifting.

Honestly ive never heard a borla muffler on a Ranger....I know for people looking for an aftermarket quietER exhaust, gibson is usually perfect because its an easy install and relatively quiet for the most part

0sixsport 04-02-2007 04:10 PM

Gibson is definitely the most quiet choice for a muffler on a 3.0.

RentonRanger 04-02-2007 06:00 PM
