Idea for LED tail and parking lights.

I've been contemplating this for years and years but never built up enough motivation to do it. I'm thinking about doing it more and more now. Since all the LED 3157 replacement bulbs just SUCK horribly, it seems to me the only way to make nice LED front & rear lights is to replace the bulb with one of those round LED lights you often see on trailers and big trucks.

I'm thinking maybe I could use the old Dremel and cut out the back of the taillight housing so something like that will fit in there. Same for the front parking light. Obviosuly this not a reverable mod, once you hack the light, thats about it. Then I would need to find a way to seal it and secure it in place since obviosuly it isn't a flat surface.

This wouldn't be anything that you could see from the outside. I mean it would be on the back of the light housing where the bulb socket twists in.

Hmm...<scratches head>...nice idea! I say go for it. It would still look stock from the outside, but have that LED from the inside.

What about the resistance and stuff that makes them blink fast, slow, or dim? I am sure with all the lights and junk you have already, you know all about that stuff, right?

I had two backup lights wire up to the wire on to my taillight...

It pull a fuse to the airbag light...

The dealership told me to run a relay because the backup lights....

were to much for the taillights...

Just an idea of that.

good idea but it might be easier to use some lights like these since you could just remove the lense and replace it with your led

Thats what I figure I'd need to do... Epoxy or silcone the crap out of it to make it stay and seal the gaps.

I'm installing a new dispatch center at work this week, so I won't be doing anything until next week... maybe.
