If you had the choice which engine would you choose?

If you were going to do an engine swap, which engine would you choose?

Ford 302 5.0L

or

Chevy LS1 5.7L

I know people are going to crap themselves by me saying this, but I want to swap a LS1 into my ranger eventually down the road, whats everyone else think?

Wont you have better transmission options with the LS1? If so I'm gonna vote LS1.

I'm also of the opinion that a Ford should stick with Ford, but that's just me. That would be pretty badass to see a LS1 in a Ranger though! -Mike-

LS1 is a great engine. But Id take the 302-5.0 and bore it out to a 347. They have potential for HUGE power

Money no object, I'd pick a 42x Ford Big block, just for a challenge and to be different.

I'd do a LSx swap. I mean so many people do the 700r4 swap, so why not. plus dimension wise it will fit in a Ranger alot better than a 5.0 and they are monsters. Best of both worlds, Best small truck, best V8 on the market.

you can't build a motor any cheaper than a small block Chevy

i agree 1,000%.....i HATE it when someone builds a Ford (doesn't matter year) and sticks a Chevy motor in....pisses me off....

that would be sweet and could be built to be a monster!

Ditto...

I don't really like it when people put other manufacturers engines in a vehicle, but to keep on track with this post.... LSx would be the perfect motor for a ranger.

everyone is also forgetting that in a '98+ Ranger, a v8 Explorer swap is almost a bolt in....

Rangers are still the same from '98+......granted you can't take a '02+ Explorer v8 and make work, but any Explorer v8 from '97-'01 will almost bolt into any '98+ Ranger......frame nor suspension hasn't changed since '98 (well except for the axle and hubs)....

^^ Yep we just got screwed in the deal. Yeah you can bolt it in at 04+ but wiring would be a absolute nightmare.

Personally, I'd go with the 302. Simply because in my case it's much more well documented on how to do the swap. I'm too new at all this stuff to start tearing into a full blown swap that no one has ever done.

Now granted obviously your a bit different knowledge level then me... so take my vote for what it's worth.

On a side note... making a 347 Stroker would be sweet.
