Inspection time! They always find something

I recently got my inspection done and everything was fine except for the dam ball joints. The ball joints alone were only $50 for upper and lower but labor was $250. I almost died. But I did go ahead and get some 30" Dueler AT's while I was at it instead of the old Destination 265/75/R15. A nice little upgrade.

Youre right about them always finding something. Last two times I went to Jiffy Lube for an inspection on my accord they hit me up for windshield wiper blades. They were like "you can pay us $14 and we'll replace them or you can fix it yourself and make another appt and get it reinspected". What a joke, it would be a waste of my time.

Funny thing was, I took the wifes jeep in to a different quik lube place and I had just replaced the wipers. They came out and said they needed replacing and I told them that they werent even 3 weeks old. They went back and checked and told me they were fine...lol. Guess the techs make more if can add on additional stuff.

The only thing we have to worry about in California is smog tests.

$14 is pretty cheap for wiper blades actually.....espically when they usually cost $8 a piece at a auto parts store...

jack the truck up off the ground and pull on the top and bottom or the sides of the tire to check for play.

or they can go dry and squeak.

That was $14 per wiper blade. Both times it was the drivers side that needed replacing. I am sure they only use the refills. I think they are like $4 at the auto parts place. It would be more trouble than its worth to set up a new appt since I try to do it on my lunch hour.

Ah this is what I love to here!

I love to hear it when the people that give us Californians sooooo much **** for having to have a smog test done get told that they can't register their trucks because the windshield wipers are old or you have a tail light out or your ball joints are 'bad'. What A Joke! LOL

That whole 'inspection' thing has SCAM written all over it. Quick lube places are notorious for this... and these state governments are giving them a blank check to say whatever they hell they want to say is wrong and you HAVE to fix it!

Bwahahahahaha!

Ok... I'm done...

yeah it sux, but if you know the right places then you are in good hands

A buddy of mine failed because his tint was too dark in the back, now he has to go get a shade lighter tint (out of pocket) and then go back and get reinspected , F#$K that

^^ Well if it is illegal to have it tinted past a certain point, then whats the problem? I mean, here in Michigan we have a law that none of the front three windows can be tinted, they are pretty easygoing about it as long as they aren't blacked out, but if I got pulled over and was told to remove mine, what could I say, its the law and I wouldn't complain.

the only good thing that our ex governor jesse "the body/mind" ventura did was eliminate all of the inspection stations in Minnesota. get your tabs without any "inspection hassle"

but it is like a one shade too dark apparently, It is only on his back windows (has a 4 door tocama) I would understand if they were some blacked out nothing getting in tint, but one shade. He has had the truck for like 3 or 4 years and this is the first time they said anything.

I knew my by ball joints were on the way out but i didn't think they would need to be replaced just to get the inspection. I made them stay till 10pm to finish it though, since I told them I can't be without a vehicle even though they close at 7pm. I got them.

I feel your pain here we have both inspection and emission [sp?] tests. I had to remove my light bar and ad fender flares for my truck to be legal and they found a plate light out on my during inspection. Cost me $12.00 for one plate light, but the upside is my inspections are free.

No I had to add the fender flares because the tires stuck out from the body. The light bar had to be removed because here you can't have any lights above 42" of the ground.
