hey B737, is your Ranger a super Cab or Regular Cab. Im having difficulty finding air bags to fit my truck. I have a 2001, 4x4, XLT, Supercab, Offroad Edition, w/4"lift, 4.0 SOHC., 5-speed manual trans.

My truck was a super cab (in signature line), was a 2007 4x4, but no aftermarket lift. the airbags served me well on that truck. stopped any sagging. but it did firm up the ride a lot to me.

 

good to know. i have a set of firestone bags kit #2531 that i ordered but have not installed yet, and i was reading on there website and it says that the kit will work for every year of ranger except 4x4 super cab, so if i end up sending it back I'm hoping that this kit may work for me.

 

interesting, i wonder how it could be any different? im sure they will work...
if they dont, you know the "Air Lift" 59516 ones i used will work...

I have a 2x4 Sport Ext Cab and I have the Firestone #2531 kit on my truck and they have been great. The most important thing is cutting the airline square so they seal in the fittings properly. Use a little dish soap in a bottle of water to make your own leak check to ensure you did it right. Follow the instructions and you should be fine. The hardest part is mounting the top bracket on the side of the frame. Clamp it if you can and make sure it is where you want it, The drivers side is the hardest because all of the wires and lines inside the frame rail.

 

from what I'm understanding is that the air bag needs to have a certain amount of space between the air bag and the inside of the tire, 6.5" is what firestone suggests and for what ever reason the #2531 kit does not allow this clearance. when I have the bag set in place i have maybe 2.5" of clearance between my tire and the bag.

 

Any Idea about how much clearance the tire has on the air lift system?

 

The 6.5 inches of clearance requirement is not air bag and tire it is from frame to side wall of the tire. The brackets mount on the outside of the frame and above the leaf springs that is why you need the 6.5 inches of clearance. I talked with both Firestone Techs and SD Truck Springs before I ordered them and they have been on the truck over two years now no issues with rubbing or clearance.

 

Unless you are running wheels that don't have the correct offset you should be fine

 

i am not sure but wonder if the the kit worked properly on your truck because it is a 4x2 where as mine is a 4x4. I am running factor spec rubber as it stands. Do you buy chance know how much clearance there is between your tire side all and the air bag off the top off your head?

Thanks pafenton, it looks like the same situation as i would have going on, and buy the looks of the picture you are running the same set of tires. Mine are 235/75/R16 goodyear wrangler Dura Trac?

 

Firestone may not want this kit installed possible because of the decreased payload on a 4x4 super cab w/6' box is what I'm thinking, can't think of any other reason.

SD truck springs list the 2531 for both 2 and 4 wheel drive configurations

 

I also have a 2007 ranger 4x4 that i am considering installing the firestone 2531 kit. I am just wondering if you successfully installed this kit on a 4x4 and if it worked out for you? I am not sure to go ahead with this given firestone says it will not fit an extended cab 4x4. I have a camper that I put on the back of my truck and have to do something to handle the load. What would you recommend?

SD truck spring also has lines of bolt on helper spring that may be able to help you, My truck is an extended cab sport and I no issues fitting the 2531 kit and everything is the same as a 4x4 model in the rear except for the size of the wheels .
