Insurance for modified vehicals
Alot of people are doing drivetrain changes and modifications, what do you do for insurance?
for example...
Jey and his SLA, and some of you cali guys that have LT... well the list goes on.
with those modifications you had to lose some saftey features that i would think the insurance company would gripe about.
anyways what would or are you doing?
not telling them?
have special insurance?
or u asked and they said you were fine?
to me i dont care if they cover my modifications but if i wreck or someone hits me i dont want to be without a truck and without anything from my insurance company. i just want the value of my truck as if it were stock.

So what your saying is people lift their trucks to destroy property and wreck their vehicles?
You know what, your right, there arent trailer queens out there that are insured.

That said, some common sense should be executed. I mean swapping out the dash lights in your Ranger to a different color should have pretty much zero effect on this, unless you expect to be compensated for the time you invested in the swap should the vehicle be lost. But drivetrain mods effect the vehicle's handling and braking performance. This is when things start to get real.
I do not think it's outside of reason to imagine a situation where an insurance company refuses to cover damages because you were speeding in your highly modified, lifted truck wearing oversized mud tires, lost control on wet pavement, and smashed into another vehicle.
This is my A#1 concern w/ the ABS mod: that my insurance company would use it as grounds for refusing coverage should I be in an accident. The insured a vehicle w/ ABS.. and the mod could be seen as defeating the system!

Well, my car was insured as it is, the guy even dropped my insurance cause i had "aftermarket modifications" the 5 lug conversion = 96 GT bigger brakes and calipers.
Insurance didnt get me for anything when i wrecked, i had different guages, diff wheels/tires, diff brakes, the rear end was different.. The guy who saw my truck, saw all of this, and told me to pull off my intake and aftermarket mass air(he knew his cars) that he didnt want the insurance taking it, and just say it flew out in the wreck.
Most wont care, but to disable the abs when your truck is a pavement pounder makes no sense.

He saw the 5 lug, and he knew it was "different" cause his son had a 87 4cyl LX that needed new wheels, old one were rusting.
Anyway, he asked me about it, and i told him, i upgraded to 5 lug, bigger brakes, blah blah, and he told me, he could use that to drop the price. I was just like, whatever.

When i went in with my dad for insurance the lady told me that they will drop me from insurance if I get any type of ticket. I at the time didn't understand it, but my dad got pissed off and told her that he's going to get me a plan at a competitor. So I'm not covered by my parents insurance, but the company im with now based it on my parents 50+ years of flawless driving. The lady who talked to me was a real *****, and I'm glad my dad didn't put up w/ her threats.

You can always have them make a note on your policy that you have a few things that are added so that if anything happens, you will get paid for them. Thats what I did for my fiberglass cap and my WAGG Bar and KC's. I believe that there is an endorsement that can be added for customizable equipment. Doesn't cost more than maybe $5 if any.
