Insuring your modified ranger...
I am going to bring this back up again and see if anyone has got better answers this time.
I brought a thread like this up a few years back.
When I mean modified I mean lifted or lowered, a lot of suspension and drivetrain work.
So what insurance do you have and whats their take on your truck being modified.

I have State Farm (have had all my life). I have them for vehicle, life, property, and personal insurance.
They had changed their policy in early '07 about NOT insuring any vehicles that were lifted (doesn't matter how much or if it is within state lift laws). They told me I had till June of '08 to either find new insrance, un-lift the truck, or get rid of it. They were dropping the insurance on my truck. I wasn't going to have insurance with 2 different companies becuase I get huge discounts for having multiple vehicles and multiple policies.
With all the research after that, I wasn't about to keep ANYTHING with State Farm. I called everywhere. Most insurance companies (Geico, Progressive, All-State, etc.) would only insure a vehicle that was lifted up to 4"; anything over they wouldn't. Farm Buearu was the only one that didn't really care.
I have since sold the Ranger, but I got the BII. Because it is over 15 years old, State Farm requires pictures of it. My agent knows it is lifted, but he wanted the first pictures I took of it; so the underwriters got the stock pictures

I dont know but there was a topic somewhat recently on one of my colorado 4x4 forums and there were many people who had insurance on their vehicles. Even buggies can get insurance, I mean if you register a vehicle, it must have insurance right?
Ive even heard of guys ROLLING their vehicles on a trail and claiming it with success. apparently trails are county roads and are covered.
crazy eh?

If the mod violates the insurance's policies, then they can. Would you really want to fight an insurance company in court?

I had State Farm and was paying $235 a month for insurance on my 04 Ranger XLT 4 banger. After about a year I got tired of paying that much and shopped around and now pay $108 for full coverage at Farm Bureau.
MUCH cheaper and better service, they also pay out in claims faster too AND offer a discount for insuring a truck vs. a car.

I have the Hartford, and all they require is a list of the modifications that I want insured. They will pay for the damages to the truck themselves, but at an extra cost also cover the modifications in the event of an accident. Since my truck is pretty much stock, I don't have to worry about it.
