Intermittent power going uphill

I have 120k mi on a 3.0 auto 2-wd Ranger, it’s a 2003 Edge

When going uphill at 50 or 60 the engine chugs and loses power. Real jerky. If I get off the accelerator it runs smooth but of course slows way down. And if I floor it the symptoms get much worse. On level ground it runs smooth as long as I do not hit passing gear. ???

I am thinking injectors or transmission, but do not know.

Any ideas or similar experience would be appreciated.

Catalytic converter clogged? MAF needs cleaned? AIC needs cleaned?

I believe MAF and AIC were serviced within the last 50k. The Catalytic converter has not been touched.
How about fuel filter and fuel pump?
Filter has been changed twice since new. Pump has not been touched.

I would change fuel filter first, should be changed every 5 years or so, $10-$15

Reads like you are losing fuel pressure at the engine during high demand, i.e. going uphill or passing, which is the first sign of a dirty fuel filter

RonD,

Replaced the filter and seems to have solved the problem. Took it for a test drive up some big hills with no problem. I disconnected the electric to the auto cut off switch and spilled very little fuel.

Thanks
