key problem?

I recently bought a 2004 ranger in Sept of 07 and just found out that my ignition key does not open my doors , just my remote works on opening and closing my doors, can anyone please tell my if they have had similar problems and do you think I have to go back to the dealer and have them change my keys?..thanks

As long as your power door locks hold up you should be fine. I have the sneaking suspicion the Dealers going to tell you sorry...They may offer to re-key the lock cylinders, but Im sure their going to want an arm and a leg. I'd just pull them and take them into a local locksmith and have them re-keyed.

It sounds like he bought it used and the previous owner had the ignition key cylinder replaced at some point.

Is the key your using a duplicate or an original Ford key? Sometimes especially with duplicates the keys are not perfect copies and if you dont use the lock often it is hard to get to work

Im a locksmith here in town, and we see this alot. Usually the lock it corroded, because noone uses the key (like myself) just uses the remote to lock/unlock.

Spray alot of WD-40 in the lock, and if you have PB blaster works really well too. and then run the in/out alot, and usually that takes care of it.

If its really corroded, just pull your door panels, and remove the locks, and just get 2 nre onrd, from a locksmith.

Good luck!

I would suggest using the liquid graphite spray made for locks rather than the WD40. The WD40 will gum up a lock and cause some problems.
