'03 was the last year for North American spec trucks. There still is manual tcase trucks scattered around the world....you know, where they offer 4 real doors and a diesel.

Anytime you search "twin sticks" you notice a pattern......everyone likes the '02 Fx4 Off Road and the '03 Fx4 Level II because if you got a manual trans in those trucks, you got yourself a transfer case stick comin' through the floor too. Before that, '97 was the last year.

Colors available on 02-03 twin stick Fx4's:
  • white
  • silver
  • bright red
  • sonic blue
  • deep wedgewood blue(darrrk blue)
  • black

Pretty sure that's it.

Thanks guy, i guess ill find a different color auto then because i want to avoid the sohc death rattle and i want at least a 04, so the 06 5speed still has a electric transcase then huh. If it wasnt so much id just swap in a tcase, anyone know if you can put hubs on a superlift made for a 99-00 but going on a 05? I like my truck but the black is a pita to get hard water off.

If it's not an '02 Fx4 Off Road and not an '03 Fx4 Level II and it's not a manual of what I just listed, it doesn't have a transfer case shifter through the floor. It's the switch on the dash on anything but what I just mentioned.

Superlift issue should be in it's own new thread...

But you can put '05 hub/bearings on a '98-00 PVH superlift knuckle... BUT, you'll have to downsize your rotors to the 11.2" size found stock on 98-02 4wd Rangers. If you get the proper kit for your truck, the Superlift knuckles will have dual caliper bracket holes: one set to cover 00-02 trucks(smaller rotors...11.2") and another set of holes to cover 03+ trucks(bigger rotors...12").

I have the 99-00 kit already, i have smaller rotors as well, just want to know what it takes to run manuel hubs or if i can what i need beside what i already have. On the sl knuckels do bolts and nuts hold the caliper on? The stock knuckels are threaded i though but my sl knuckels is just straight through.

The stock knuckles shouldn't be threaded. The bolt goes thru the knuckle and threads into the caliper bracket.

^^Same goes with the hub/bearing holes on the knuckle. I think the only thing threaded on SL or even stock knuckles are the dust shield threads and the ABS sensor wire holder thingy. What your likely looking at that's threaded is your CV shaft....the shaft holds the bearing together via a 32mm nut that you can see if you remove the center caps.

You don't wanna run manual hubs. Do a quick search and you'll see just how many of those AVM manual hubs fail. It's one hell of a failtastic setup if you ask me. There's a reason Ford only offered that Pulse Vacuum Hub design for only 2.5 model years...

It's unreliable junk.

As for your later question, the superlift knuckles can take either the PVH 98-00 style bearings w/ AVM hubs....OR the '00.5+ live axle like you've got in your '05? (do you have a truck yet?). Whatever hubs and CV shafts you have will determine if you can run AVM hubs. The knuckle doesn't mean squat unless you want to continue to use PVH stock vacuum hubs(which you don't have if you've got an 00.5+). If you want manual hubs(dumb idea!) on your 00.5+, you'll need 98-00 CV shafts, wheel bearings, seals, and obviously the manual aftermarket hubs. I'm a huge live axle fanboy....if you've got a manual tcase, you ALWAYS have that front axle doing something. Absolutely a total failsafe setup.

Thanks shane i will stick with the live axel, i though i could convert the avh garbage to warn hubs. I have a 2005 black lvl2, i just need two ball joints and tires and i can put my lift on, i already ditched the blocks and fullscale gave me part number for the shackels and leafs, so i ordered that awhile back. I think im gonna run the 1250 on alcoas, ive seen pics of the black one on stock ride height with them and 33s and to me it looks fine, i really wish they made these 15x8 but o well, if they stick in to far ill throw some 1" spacers on. The alcoas make rangers look sexy.

Warn doesn't offer anything that you can use.... AVM/Rugged Ridge(same company) is your only option for manual hubs. Ontop of that cost, you gotta get CV's and wheelbearings.

Was the death rattle mostly fixed for 2003 trucks? Ive found a nice looking silver 03 twin stick with 76k on it. I just dont want to trade my 05 on it and a few months later the tensioner goes **** up.

Anyone with a 03 have the rattle on here? What problems come with that 5speed or are they fine for off roading?

Actually, the chain rattle was mostly resolved by 2002. There were still a few with problems but not nearly as many as 2001. In 2003, it is rare to find a SOHC with chain rattle.

My 2002 SOHC has no chain rattle at 112,000 miles.
