Lower Intake Manifold Gasket Replacement
Hi All,
I have a 2000 Ranger XLT 4x4 4.0 liter, and it is leaking coolant from the gasket,
right in front, by the alternator bracket. Took forever to find the leak, but that is where
the darn thing is leaking. I am going to try to replace this gasket myself, and am wondering if there is a thread or someplace that gives detailed instructions on how to do this. Also, has anyone ever had this done at the dealer or repair shop, and if so, how much did it cost. just trying to save some money and attempt to do it myself. Any help
at all would be appreciated. Thanks.

Intake gasket is easy to replace. Make sure you have a torque wrench before you start taking it apart, you'll need that for reassembly. Expect it to take 3 hours or so. Longer if you work slow, or without air tools.
If you have a SOHC engine, it has dry intake gaskets, no coolant. It'll be leaking from the thermostat housing, very common on those.

Pictures Of Leak
Hi Folks,
Here are 2 pictures of where the leak is coming from. Put a new thermostat and gasket
on. No leaks there. Photo 1 is where it comes out, like right out of the rubber gasket between the lower intake manifold and the cylinder head. Photo 2 is a more close up view.
It comes out underneath where the head and manifold meet. Pretty much a steady stream. Any help at all much appreciated. Thanks.
