your best bet is to talk with a company that impoirts cars for a living and just get the info from them and see what you might needa do. I doubt they will tellyou everything, but it's worth a shot at some free info.....

any diesel vehicle for road use is exempt from most emmisions tests, even if you dont have a muffler, and it comes stock with a cat, you can usually get rid of it, and if your state requires it, then just clean it, there is no actual emissions tests done, besides at the factory, but if your going to buy a ranger in mexico, by the time you pay for duties and taxes, you will dish out about the same amount, but you will get the chance to see mexico, its not too bad, but stick to the rule of thumb, dont drink the water.

Take out the engine and transmission, put it on a truck, take it over the border, reassemble and register it as a kit car.

You may be able to reigister it as a kit car without taking anything apart.

well, how many 4dr diesel rangers have you seen? nil. nada. none. i want a daily thats unique and affordable. as for the cost thing. the top of the line fx4 with all the shining lights and even the flux capacitor installed costs 29,000. well....a similarly equipped mexican XLT with ALL the trimmings will only cost 19,000. less probably since i used to work at a dealer and know a few tricks to get cheaper rides (you b!tch, plain and simple. b!tch more, pay less). pretty sure (at least i hope) 10,000 will cover the taxes and such. whew, its gonna be fun driving that puppy back. if somethings gonna 'f' up, it'll happen then. but it wont happen for another 13 months so i got time to plan.

thanx for the suggestions and advice peeps. appreciate it.

MSRP definitely does not equal selling price. I have a nearly fully loaded* LII and paid just under $20k. Sticker said $28k or something. I don't fully understand it, but Rangers sell for well well less than they sticker for, at least around here.

* I think the only options my truck didn't have was the premium sound system w/ CD changer or MP3 (I had dual media premium sound). My truck is a 5 speed, so I didn't get the auto (by choice, but it effected MSRP and selling price). Also I didn't get any of the cutsy accessories like bedliner, hard bed cover or bed extender. Still, I'm comfortable in calling it 'loaded'..
