Morning start up
Morning start up
Hello All,
I'm looking for some direction on my truck 1993 Ranger 4L. Seem like every morning when I go to start the truck it would start and stall the first couple times, by the third crank over it starts and seems to be ok for the day. I've just done a tune up and replaced the fuel filter. I'm thinking I'm losing pressure somehow but not sure where. 🤔 Any advice would be appreciated on my trouble shooting process.
Thanks 😊

Cycle key on and off 3 times then try to start
This primes the fuel system 2 seconds each time key was turned to on, you get 10psi fuel pressure each time
If engine seems to start better then yes, you are losing fuel pressure when vehicle sits long enough
If you don't smell gasoline, and MPG is not in the toilet, then its most likely losing pressure in the gas tank, at the fuel pump
Fuel pumps have a built in "check valve", basically just a flap that is pushed open when pump is on and then closes, and is held closed by back pressure, but they can leak over time
Not sure replacing the fuel pump for this issue would be worthwhile
Maybe try cycling key just once and see if that is all it needs

Hello, I tried what you mentioned about cycling the fuel pump, cycled it 3 times with the same issue as it started and stalled. I have to start the engine 3 times to get it running. I've ordered a new sending unit hopefully it will resolve the issue.
Thanks for your help!
