buddy of mine used to race an SVO, had a variable turbo in it that pushed 20 pounds of boost (i think is what he said) and was rediculously fast. Sold it for his first Ranger...

His current Ranger

Ive allways wanted one of cars. Its pretty cheap and easy to get alot of power out of one of those motors.

They are pretty rare. Only made from 84-86.

Who is your buddy? Not questioning your inteligence. But, can you confirm if he did nor did not have a variable turbo with the 2.3T? If so I'd like to know how he did it and controlled it.

You're not lying. I love my 2.3T Ranger. Don't know of another readily mass produced 4 cylinder that actually makes more torque than HP and is reliable at high performance numbers. And with the grass roots mentality of most 2.3T owners, and Fords love of using parts on multiple cars/trucks, spare parts are easily findable at the JY.

looks like it was a mistake with the off center scoop and headlights recessed but the corners and turns not

Thanks for the kind words!! I gotta start doing the spare motor up! I gotta read more on engine managment and stuff just lookin for 260hp to the wheels nothing too crazy... Im pretty shure I can get that out of a stock turbo if not maybe a thunderbird turbo? who knows~ All I know is the spare motor is getting bored and balanced new ported head from boport and a 3inch turboback exhuast catless and MAYBE a front mount! NPR or Volvo with piping.. I might rotate the upper intake too and def will get those gutted and ported and a SN95 mustang Throttle body

how come the headlights aren't the stock style? stock '84 healamps on the mustang were angled upwards and not like the ones on your mustang. for reference, check the pic from chuck griggs (thesoundmaster)

I know a guy who had a 84 for years. He said in order to turn the boost up and rev it to 7000rpms.. all you had to do was replace the valve springs and make sure it's getting enough fuel.

Not sure how true that is. But he's a SVO (and turbo) nut. Might be worth looking into.

One of the guys I go 4 wheeling with. Don't know how he controlled it, but he has mentioned it had a variable turbo making 20lbs of boost. I know nothing of turbocharging anything, seeing as I'd rather have a supercharger and I'm not into too much speed anyway. This was back in the mid 90's that he did it.

Stock top mount intercooler is located directly under that scoop. Since the intercooler sits directly above the exhaust manifold and is not centered in the engine bay (like a WRX STi) the scoop is offset. I love the look, gives it mean character.

260 to the wheels is easy to accomplish with stock stuff. Stock turbo will handle that just fine, an aftermarket one can do it *more efficiently* though. The stock SVO had the biggest of the T3's that Ford put on the 2.3T's. A .60/63 T3. That turbo also came on the 83-86 Thunderbird's if a manual tranny. The auto Tbirds had a smaller exhaust side at .48. No need to upgrade unless you go aftermarket.

You wouldn't be willing to pick his brain for some further details would you?
