My steering is really loud.

My power steering has always been pretty loud, but lately it seems to be louder. I made sure i had enough fluid and i do. It just seems to be really loud, like whines alot when i turn. Anyone know what the problem could be, or is it just loud because its a ford?

Evan

Typical Ford. The Ranger isn't doing it yet (yet being the key) but the Bronco does all the time.

Same here. I just turkey-baster sucked the old fluid out of the reservoir, refilled, worked the steering back and forth, repeat, repeat, repeat until it was nice and clean-looking SYNTHETIC ATF.

Much Quieter.

this is my first ford but is this just a common noise for them. on my pontiacs when this noise came up when turning it ment the powersteering needs flushed or the PS pump is going bad.

After I did a road side fix on my Rangers Power steering line it was loud when I got it home so I pulled the preasure line off on one side and held it in a bucket and had my Dad start the truck and turn the wheel back and forth. When no more fluid would come out I just put the line back on and refilled it and work the steering back forth and now you can't hear it at all over the engine. Oh and I just used normal power steering fluid.

I wonder if got a pump from a different company...if it would be better, as far as making noise goes.

Search and you will find many have tried that and ended up with a new noisy pump.

Not all, but some. I think it's worth trying an $8 quart of synthetic ATF in it. Worked for a lot of us.
