My truck bit me today.
I was changing the oil today (first oil change since I took possession of truck). I was under it and went to reach for my filter wrench, and the side of my arm hit my catalytic converter and burnt the crap out of me (I know I should have let it cool down but was to busy today) However on a positive note, I did not have to break out the jack to get the oil changed, which was nice.

Def not the worst injury I have had working on cars tho. This is just the first time the truck bit me.
I have a 51 ford deluxe that between me and my dad we hit our heads enough times on the front of the hood we both said to hell with it and removed the hood, where it has sat on the roof for the last several years while we keep working on it lol. I have like 9 good scars on my head from that SOB.

How Men and Women Change the Oil
Women:
1. Pull up to Jiffy Lube when the mileage reaches 3000 since the last oil change.
2. Drink a cup of coffee.
3. 15 minutes later, write a check and leave with a properly maintained vehicle.

That is a cheap DUI...It's like 5k after everything is said and done here.
I'd say it goes like this for most guys...
-Go to the auto store
-Buy 1 five gallon jug of oil, a tg2 equivalent oil filter, just for ***** buy a drain plug for those just in case moments
-Go home
-Let truck cool down for 10 mins while you grab your tools that you need. (because it's nice to organize your tools so you know where they are when you need them.)
-While your at it grab your drain pan that you were smart enough to buy that isn't just an open drain container. It just has a few small holes so nothing can fall into it.
-Pop hood, pull oil cap off motor so it can ventilate while your draining the oil.
-Get under the truck with your gloves, socket, ratchet and new oil filter if it's 4x4
-If it's to low for you to get under then you should have pulled onto the ramps. (because jacking it up and jack stands are a waist of time for just doing an oil change.)
-Put drain pan under where the oil is going to land.
-Loosen and remove drain plug. Wait till it is just dripping.
-Take off oil filter. Let that little amount drain. Place oil filter upside down of drain pan.
-Check drain plug and gasket on drain plug. If all is well screw back in/on and tighten it.
-Take one glove off and new oil filter out of box and unscrew lid to new oil.
-Take finger and insert into new oil container. Apply small amount of oil onto oil filter gasket/seal.
-Screw oil filter on and tighten.
-Grab all that crap under the truck and pull it out.
-Dump new oil into the motor.
-Look under truck to make sure nothing is leaking
-Put cap back on and jump under the truck and make sure everything is tight.
-Turn truck on and let it sit a min or two.
-Put tools and everything away and drive truck around the block to make sure all is well.
-Clean up your little mess on the ground with whatever. Dirt, sand...Steal your gf's cat littler. (Get yelled at.) lol
-Then sweep that crap into the bushes and tell yourself that the birds will eat it instead of mother nature.
-Done.
All in all with making the trip to the store around 45 mins.
-Knowing it was done right and not buy some stupid kid at jiffy lube...Priceless. lol

So true, Just figured I would share since it was the first bite (sure as hell not the last lol, Esp when I start leaving my hitch in and kick my shins every day)
Need to check my air filter tomorrow, and while I am thinking about it. does the 10 have a cabin filter? If so is it in the cowl or behind the glove box?
Need to pack the truck up this week for its first long trip (since I have owned it).

around here you can get an oil change for around $22.. but.. they use generic filters and some bulk type oil like penzoil...
if you buy the proper motorcraft filter and 5 qts of some decent oil like castrol or valvoline the total price comes out to as little as 19.50. moral - you can get better quality parts for around the same money if you do this job yourself, and you know it's done right.
