Need Help with Ranger.
Ok so im a complete noob when it comes to motors or anything truck related besides changing your own oil and adding windshield wiper fluid.. lol... so I bought a ranger 2005 like 1 month ago.. it has a 4.0 engine.. with 4x4 its a super cab... and a 5 speed tranny... it had 90K miles... well everything was fine with it until today in the morning I went to start her up for work and warm the engine up... I noticed that it was having a hard time to maintain idle and I though to my self must be a cold start thing... as I drove it to work.. it starts rev skipping... like where you keep it at a constant RPM and then it starts to either jerk forward or looses RPM or just spontaneously accelerates... keep in mind... I'm not truck or car smart.. but when I got to work after like 5 hours I went on break and saw there was oil leaking from the passenger side where the airbox and air filter is.. opened that up and around the perimeter was a bunch of oil filter wasn't soaked in it... checked the dipstick it was dry...
need help and can any one give me advice..
thanks

Check and top off the engine oil using the correct oil for your truck,
Do the same for the cooling system once the engine is cool enough to check safely.
You may want to pressure test the cooling system and check for obvious oil leaks.
You may have a blown head gasket or cracked head etc but we will not know until some basic diagnostics are done.
The dipstick Reading completely dry is not a good thing at all for your engine.
If you notice the coolant is bone dry I would not worry about filling the oil until you find out where the coolant went to with a pressure test.
