New Ranger - New Ideas
New Ranger - New Ideas
I want to try some new things with my second ranger (and my first 4x4) so tell me what you think (these are pretty close to being in order of purchase/install):
- Autoloc Remote Start / Alarm (being installed as we speak . . . ok, type)
- Folding Cover (either Torza or Lund, not sure which)
- Bedrug
- K & N Intake
- X-Calibrator Tuner (or X2 if its out)
- DZK UnderDrive Pulley
- High Output Alternator (Either 120 or 200)
- Avic-N1 Had Unit
- Brush Guard (something chrome/stainless I think)
- Nerf Bars (to match the Brush Guard)
I'd like to get a nice paint job (ghost flames of the realistic butane flames from another thread) but I would also like to do some more off-road type stuff (suspension, lift)
I think I'm aslo going to get a Snowsport Snow plow (mounts to a hitch reciever, no hydraulics nec.)
Any thoughts?

sounds like you got it all planned out. Just wondering why you want our input? just to see if there is anything you may have missed perhaps? Kitchen sink maybe..lol...
if you're gonna throw that much money into your head unit though I WOULD suggest looking into the Pioneer AVIC-N2. It has a few new features and updated GPS software.
In all honesty though I wouldn't put that kind of money into a Head Unit. I can understand it if you were running a piggy-back FM/EM system and your truck was totally tuned out to perform. Here's a link to the AVIC-N2 though
AVIC-N2 Mobile Nav System
I would just get a mid-range DVD player, and Magellan GPS system. Like this one:
Magellan RoadMate 300

Yeah, you can apparently do anything with the n1 that you can with the n2, but it doesn't have the restrictions of the n2 (after numerous lawsuits) including adding in the module for the navtech alert system and updated navigation cds.
One thing a salesman at an audio shop told me was the screen will actually retract if the car goes under 10 mph.
As for the reason for the post, I just wanted to get some feedback on the products if anyone has experience (like the covers, torza vs lund vs other) and such.
As for show truck, not likely, but it would be nice. I make pretty good $$ for a 22 year-old, (more than my parents) and have a sweet living/rental agreement, so I have some extra cash to spend, and since my truck is my hobby (and I don't have very many) I don't mind spending dough on what I like.
My gf has a roadmate 700 (if I remember right) that retails for 1200 by itself. It comes in handy on road trips, but I might as well spend the extra 500 and have an all-in-one that looks bad *** with dvd and voice recognition too.
Thanks.

Nerf bars looks good but aren't terribly strong. I'd go for some customer rock sliders. Same function and are as strong as you get them built. I've heard of them (similar to TBarCya's) stopping a lot of damage from occuring. They are wicked strong. Plus they can be made smaller to allow for better ground clearance...I assume you'll be using that 4x4 for the purpose it was intended: offroad driving :)
Congrats on the new truck!

I'd love to do some offroading, but since this is my first 4x4 I need to find some trails & such. (if anyone knows of any in MD let me know) Probably won't be doing anything major,ie rock crawling & mud diving, but just some simple off-roading and snow traction.
