I can't find the damn site I used to locate my Level II, but....
White 2003 FX4 Level II - Albuquerque, NM Manual trans and t-case! asking $16,995
when I got my '04 they (Carl Gregory Ford, Ft. Payne, AL) asked $18,751. I told them I was calling from out of town, gave em the story about my '93 and asked how flexible they were? Salesman asked what I was looking to spend. I said, oh about 15. He said he'd talk to his manager and call me back. 5 minutes later....how about 16,000.........SOLD! I'd do the same on that above ranger.

IF (can't stress it, but IF IF IF IF) everything works out, are you picking it up or having it trucked out? AND, if I had the time I'd drive up to check it out for you, check paint etc. However, my best friend lives up in Albuquerque and happens to drive a 97 4x4 ranger. And if memory serves me well, he's not but maybe 5 miles from Rich Ford. In the craziness of today (I'm in class from 8:30 to 5pm and then I gotta do a program for work from 6-8) I'll see if I can't get a phone call into him and get some answers for ya.

I'd love you forever if you did! In a strictly heterosexual way of course.
And in regards to picking it up or trucking it out, depends on the price of each one. I may take a little holiday and have a road trip! With school more than halfway through the semester though that's not likely. We'll just have to see.

It's got the bed, which I really need for moving crap around at school, and can fit my bike in the back. It's able to tow my jet ski.
-Handles good (w/ and w/o pavement)
-Rides good
-Good power
-Fairly fun to drive
-Doesn't get stuck in snowbanks
-Plenty of cargo space
-Could be worse on gas
-Affordable
Before I bought this truck I'd have added -Reliable to that list, based on my '99 XL. Unfortunately this new truck hasn't been quite as reliable..
..Although, since you're in school. My advice would to go buy the cheapest thing rolling. The Ranger XL is a helluva choice. Cheap as hell, reliable (there's very little to break), good cargo capacity, and the 4-banger really isn't that bad. My 2nd year in school my '86 VW died (well, was about to die). I was in a tight spot and needed an affordable ride. I got a '99 XL Sport. What a good move that was. I bought a brand new vehicle, complete w/ warranty and roadside assistance for 3 years for $9500 off the lot. W/ what meager credit I had that worked out to $227/mo.. which was a great deal.
Hell, for what you get out of the insurance settlement you might be able to cover the whole purchase price of a brand new XL.. and have a few bucks leftover to pay tuition, books.. and dare I say beer.
Think about it man. You've got the rest of your life to get 4x4 toys and the lot.
