Northern Indiana Recreational area...lets send them some mail

In Northern Indiana we lack alot of trails/recreational areas. This might not work but I pay and all my atv/dirt bike/recreational friends pay a fee to help fund riding areas to be opened.....has it happend? No what i last heard they raised millions of dollars and couldn't even count for what 1/3 of it went too.

Website: http://www.in.gov/dnr/parklake/contact.html

Here is the email contact for all the indiana lakes and resivores.

When you send you email please refrence the Salamonie Lake Resivore

Key points I sent in the email

11,594 acres - That alot of unused land eh?
Snowmobile trails - If there is snowmobile trails why not wheeling trails?
Jogging, Mountain Biking, Horseback trails - why not trails for motorvehicles?
How not having a place to ride/wheel effects tresspassing.
How it effects me

^^^this isnt what I put exaclty but its some key points.

Even if you not from around hear feel free to send a email

Thanks

here is there respone......they dont want us

Mr. Kissinegr,

I've heard this request several times over the years so your request
isn't unusual. The DNR established a policy in the 1970's banning any
off-road vehicle use on DNR properties. One exception was made in 1981
for a snowmobile trail at Salamonie because snowmobiles leave no trace
and do no damage when used on 4 inches or more of snow. Those are still
the rules. We can't open the trail until we have 4 inches on the
ground.

Another exception was made when the DNR obtained the Redbird State
Riding Area south of Terre Haute, near Dugger. I've attached a link to the
Redbird website: http://www.in.gov/dnr/redbird/index.htm . My
understanding is that this area was established as an ORV area because it was
already badly eroded from ORV use and is located in a reclaimed mine
site where property damage is not a big issue. It is extremely popular
and visitors from all over the state use it.

I guess the bottom line is that officials have determined that the DNR
should not get into this area of recreation with rare exceptions and
they prefer to leave it to private landowners. Private enterprise may
someday succeed in making this recreation profitable. There have been
private areas developed near Salamonie in the past but I don't know of
any currently in operation. Off road vehicles and dirt bikes damage the
environment in ways that can't be repaired. The DNR is committed to
protecting and managing natural environments. I don't expect that
mission to change much. If other DNR areas are eventually set aside for ORV
use I suspect they will be areas similar to Redbird.

Thanks for allowing me to respond to your questions.
