Odometer flip
Odometer flip
Hey guys, not technically in the Ranger fam yet but I have some questions. Negotiating with a nice older gentleman about his 1993 ranger and he swears the odometer has not yet flipped. Its currently sitting at 97,500 and I just don't see how this could still be the case. Hesitant to make a move if its 197,000 and not 97,000. Is there any way to tell the odometer has been flipped, or any warning signs to look out for? Runs like a charm and has no rust, doors werent sagging, and only major work was a transmission a year ago. Not sure what to do. Any advice appreciated.
Look at driver's seat and brake pedal wear
Assuming tires are not new, look at tire's Date Code: https://danthetireman.com/blog/artic...t-numbers-mean
If it wasn't driven a lot it will have older date code

If there's any floor mats, pull them up and look underneath. If it's carpeted, unscrew the door sill and peek under the carpet. Also look to see how much rust in on the bottom edge of the doors and tailgate. Especially on the side facing the body. Open the door and look at the interior side at the bottom, and open the tailgate and look between it and the bed.
There will probably be some rust, but 198k it should be quite prevalent for a daily driver but not if it was a show truck.
