Ok so ive had this problem for a long time and it never has thrown any engine codes at me and i have never seen any adverse effects. Whats happening is my truck is losing oil and i can't figure out where its going. Its not leaking on the ground and i have never for the life of me seen any blue smoke (nor have my friends) come out of my exhaust. And its not a little oil missing its about a quart a month. Also just recently i was out in barstow and my oil pressure guage dropped to nothing and now it bounces back and forth, im not to sure but maybe its the oil pressure sending unit that got messed up? Any input is greatly appreciated!

 

You could be burning the oil even if your not seeing blue smoke. If the rings are getting worn out and allowing oil to bypass them it can burn small amounts at a time, but over a month a quart wouldn't be to suprising. I lean towards this because it is obviously going somewhere and if your not seeing it on the ground or anything all shinny underneath?

 

Nah its clean underneath it and im just wondering because next semester im gonna be pulling the engine and rebuilding it in my class. It has been through so much it needs a rebuild lol. What do you think about the oil pressure problem? I have hooked it up to a mechanical guage and its got pressure albeit a little low.

Nah im good lol. Too much money to swap in a v8 than to just rebuild this one and call it a day. Front suspension is soaking up all the income now.

 

If your engine is low on oil it will throw a code 1D10T.

 

LOL. We tell my boss that all the time. He is always screwing up the copier at work.

 

i would say check your coolent to see if it's your head gasket but if it's that much oil going missing, then it can be your valve seals to.

 

If your not burning that much and you only need to make it a couple more months until your going to have the chance to rebuild it, I wouldn't worry about it to much. If the mech gauge is showing adequate oiling you shouldn't destroy anything. Motor should last a few more months easily.

 

Change your PCV. My F-150 work truck was doing the same thing, losing oil with no visible signs, and changing the PCV fixed it.

 

Well it was the piston rings being bypassed. So engine rebuild time!

I was going to say....

I had an old beater Dodge neon that would eat a quart a month. it was worse the harder I was on the car. if you were behind me and I really wound out the enging (high RPMS) you could see the smoke. everyday average driving you didnt see any smoke at all.

 

Run it until the pressure is too low. Low PSI=one of these: excessive clearance on main/rod bearings, worn oil pump, excessive cam bore clearence, anywhere pressurized oil goes basically. Sounds like a normal used engine, 1 quart a month isn't too bad.

 

Once i pull the engine sheesh! Don't worry there will be plenty of pictures.

 

I am having the same issue. Shed some light on it when you get some answers. I unfortunately dont have the place or the know how to rebuild mine. How lmuch is something like this gonna cost me? Go easy on me, I'm a noob.
