I have an 09 sport 2wd automatic with torsion bar suspension, and I have been making up a list on the things to do a 4wd conversion with the IFS, because now i wish i had bought a 4x4. i am slowly collecting up parts so when the warranty is off it i will hopefully have everything to do it, so the people who have done this sees stuff i am missing please add to it, thanks.

-4wd transmission (or just the output shaft and bring it to a tranny shop to get it in)
-manual transfer-case with shift linkage
-transfer-case adapter plate
-front and rear driveshafts
-front differential
-a mount made on the side of the frame for the front differential
-front axle shafts
-front 4wd steering knuckles and bearings and brakes

 

Looks like you have almost everything covered. What is the transfer case adapter plate for though? You shouldn't need anything like that unless I'm misinterpreting what it is.

Don't forget you'll need a few things to finish the interior. Tcase shift boot/bezel and something to cover the RCM with. You may be left with a hole in your flooring underneath the cupholders so I'd pull those off and see what you're facing.

 

yes, i was thinking of where the linkage comes up through the floor, but i was going to wait for the stick to be there to see what i can come up with, and i have been looking at what other people have done wit that.. and the adaptor plate i was thinking of is the housing between the transmission and transfer-case, or maybe that comes on a 4wd transmission, or maybe that was for a manual transmission, i thought i read somewhere about that adaptor plate but i could have been looking at something completely different, i will have to do a bit of research on that one.

 

go on ebay and type in 4x4 output shaft, i have one in the closet that i bought on there for 12 bucks plus shipping, forgot who the seller that i got it from but they had a lot of transmission stuff

 

Just a thought since the truck is an 09. Sell it and buy a 4x4

well i found a 95 explorer 4 door to get a front drive shaft out of, does anyone know if the rear drive shaft from the explorer would be the one i need for the rear??

 

The 95 explorer runs a live axle setup, chances are its front drive shaft needs to be rebuilt. The cv is about 100 bucks plus a ujoint. Might not sound like much but add the cost of the shaft and the parts to fix it your looking at half the price of the better super lift shaft. Which is new.


Im guessing your 2wd truck is an EDGE, if its the coil spring truck you cant just swap in the 4wd stuff.

 

The superlift shaft will be too long without a lift kit...

 

ya, its a sport, same thing as an edge with torsion bar suspension, but would anyone know if the rear drive shaft would fit for what im doing as well, if it does the last thing on my list would be the transfer case and linkage, and transmission output shaft.

 

I used a rear shaft from an explorer sport on mine. Not sure if the 4 door explorers have the same wheelbase or not though.
