Anyone ever try this hitch with a body lift? Do you think it would work?

I think the drawtite hitch looks normal with a body lift, cuz it has the main crossmember behind the bumper with the reciever hanging underneath it on a normal setup. I know I've seen pics of someone with the drawtite hitch and body lift on here before. But I think they either left or took the lift and tires off...

I have the draw tite hitch. It does not look normal with a body lift, not without modifying it or the trucks frame.

 

sorry I meant that it won't hang down 3 inches. It might work really, my roommate wants to buy it, but that might be a while so until then I can't say for sure.

 

Ok. It says its for 93-97 only but I don't know why it wouldnt fit on the newer models. The thing that I'm unsure about is if it will be just an inch or so too high still

 

I would think that it would be the perfect height for use with a body lift, the only thing that has me thinking it wouldn't work properly is that it might interfere with the spare tire carrier. If your like me though and don't use the tire carrier then I don't see any reason it wouldn't work.


Edit: btw the hitch is upside down in the picture summit shows on their site.....

 

ha ha ya it took me a minute to figure that out too. But I dont see how it would interfere with the spare tire carrier itself, maybe the spare tire but i dont think i would need to do any cutting do you?

 

I wouldn't think so. Unless the hitch bolts would interfere with the rivets that hold the carrier in. We did a good bit of looking at this hitch for my roommates truck one day and we couldn't come up with any solid reason why it wouldn't work. But I don't just wanna say yeah it'll work cause he hasn't bought it yet so I still couldn't say for sure.

 

yes it will bc you have to mount it to the frame with a 3 inch body lift your not lifting the frame its going to hang unless you do like you said in another post and get it modified

 

Thanks RazorsEdge. MossyOak, Yes it will fit 3 inches lower than it is susposed to be which will mean that it will fit right underneath the bumper because it is meant to come out of the liscense plate of a roll pan

 

I'm very tempted to get it. I'll see how much money I have at the end of the summer.

 

Would this work with the stock bumper and no body lift? I know I would probably have to cut a hole for the hitch to pass through behind the plate. I need to get a hitch and I would like to posible do a body lift in the far future.

if your willing to take some sort of cutting tool to your bumper the Uhaul one should work with the body lift.

it has 2 brackets bolted to the frame then the hitch part bolts to those brackets, so you just unbolt it from the brackets, flip it and bolt it back on.. the holes all line up


i'm just not too sure how it would match up with the stock bumper, it doesnt look bad on mine.






then just flip it back down for hauling :D

just thought i would throw my experiences in the mix

 

Myself, i'm having my hitch raised 2.5" w/ reinfocements at the reweld point. Got my buddy to do it for me...should have it soon though.

It might work....but.....to use it, you might need to hack your bumper a little bit. See....



Use this pic as reference to location of where the frame is with PA bumper brackets....and where the summit hitch will reside....I think it'll work...but no clue. Mow that i compare the two shots.....even if the summit one hangs under the frame.....i think the spare tire carrier gets in the way.

 

ive modified a few hitches to work, the stock one works well.

I cut 2 3/4in out of mine and welded it back together.

 

Can't wait to get my 2.5" lifted hitch....can't effin' wait.
