So I drive a 2000 3.0L manual, and I get in my truck this morning and pop it in 4x4. I go to back out of my driveway and my truck seems like its like....skippin like my tires are jumpin. I give it plenty of gas and let the clutch out and it dies. Keep in mind it was barely movin in the first place. I go to start it back up and it doesn't start.

so I put it back in 2wheel and put it in nuetral to let it roll back in my driveway, and it wont roll. Then i sit in it and hold the clutch in and my buddy pushes it and it wont roll. I come back out and start it back up which took a while, i put it in first and barely get it in my driveway.

the reason this was happening is my back passengers side wheel is like... locked, it wont spin or anything at all. I dont know why it wasn't starting tho......


Any help would be appreciated!

 

The rear drum brakes on Rangers are known to lock up during cold months. Try going in reverse then forward.

 

Did you leave the parking brake on? Shoes probably froze to the drum.

 

mine did a similar thing about a month ago. i just left it in 2wd and gunned it and it popped loose. but i dont think mine was as stuck as urs.

 

I've had that happen a few times. In winter months, I just leave the truck in gear instead of using the parking brake.

 

I had that happen to me, what happened was that my parking brake line cracked open somehow and while sitting water got in it and froze the parking brake into the locked position. If it backed out ok then that would be my guess.

 

I do that all winter, problem is that if you do not use the cable, it can rust and jam like it has done twice on me now. I hate those freaking things....

 

yeh I had that happen to me back in Oct. Scared the **** outta me, every time I would hit my breaks, my rear end would just lock up (on DRY pavement) I was like WTF, i drove it around the block and then it was all better. It must have been some sort of condensation on the drum that caused it to go ape****.

 

thanks for all your help everyone but the first post actually did ti for me, right when i saw that i went out to my truck and put it in reverse and gunned it. then in first and just gave it a little gas and it popped right off

it was definately frozen
