Can u add all the power features to a ranger that didnt come with it from the factory? the things i am wanting to add is power mirrors, power locks, and power windows. i geuss the main reason y i want to do this cause i am lazy

There are aftermarket kits available or you can use stock parts from the JY. To get the factory remote keyless entry to work, you would need to add a Central Security Module.

 

well i have an alarm with aftermarket door locks would that work for the security module?

The CSM does not require PATS. The CSM is the receiver for signals from the remote entry keyfob for the door locking/unlocking/panic functions. The PATS transceiver senses the presence of the PATS transponder key, and tells the PCM to provide ground to the starter relay.

If you already have a lock module that you would like to use, you would need to figure out how to interface it with whatever lock solenoids and lock switches you would add to the truck.

There are complete aftermarket kits to add power windows and/or locks to your truck. You could also go with all original equipment Ford parts from a salvage yard. Remember that you don't currently have the wiring in the doors to do this. You may not have all that you need in the dash, either.

This is not a trivial, bolt-on installation but it's not impossible either. Best bet would be to find a donor truck of a compatible year and, if possible, get everything you need from one vehicle.

 

Right. My question though, can anyone tell me exactly what I need from the donor vehicle? This was my original plan - to find a donor truck of compatible year. I want the truck to look like it came factory with the power options. I'm planning on swapping door panels as well. I know the obvious things, such as door panels and switches, window and lock motors, but what about the mirrors? Will they have to be replaced entirely? Relays? I know a few things about the swap, but as for wiring and computer/fuse issues I don't have a clue.

 

It's a long list and your best bet would be to get a service manual for your truck and study the wiring that is required, and the wiring you have, etc. There's no way anyone can explain it all to you in a reasonable amount of space. Do some research and then ask specific questions about details and we can help you.

If you can't read schematics of vehicle wiring, that's something you should work on. If you have no experience, this is not a mod for you. "Transplants" don't come with instruction manuals. Your best bet would be aftermarket kits, but of course that's more money.

 

I don't know everything that's on a 99. If you can get hold of a Ford factory Wiring Diagram Manual for your 99, that would go a long way toward getting you the info that you need. They are $60 new but only $10~20 used on eBay. I have three of them but nothing near 99.

Here's a wild guess:
door panels with switches
lock solenoids
window motors
door harnesses
power mirror assemblies (they are different from manual)
window relay(s)
receiver module (this is called the Central Security Module on later trucks)
possibly some additional wiring under the dash
key fobs for remote entry

 

I have a '99 service CD, but truly no time to write up a 'how-to' on adding power options to an older vehicle, sorry!

That will help a whole lot -- make sure to see if you can get the wires cut inside the truck a ways and NOT inside the door -- it might be easier that way.

Basically, for that scenario, you will need some switched, fused power from somewhere, and wiring across the front of the cab for the windows.

You need some kind of lock controller, and it might be just as easy to go aftermarket. I would need to see how '99's controlled the locks. The windows are pretty easy overall because there will be some wires that go into the drivers door you will feed power and ground to, and four wires that go to the passenger's door from the drivers side door, which should be color matched to the drivers side ones.

The locks require a "controller" of some sort. Let me think about it, or Bob might chime in with some advice on the simplest way -- it's possible I might even overcomplicate it, lol!
