Question about oil dipstick 3.0 and filler tube.

My oil dipstick tube on my 2000 Ranger seems to be the correct length. I measured one at the junkyard and compared to mine. But the tube has no outward flare at the end. When I bought it the the dipstick was just resting on the top of the tube. I shaved the dipstick plastic with a grinder so that it would insert. Any ideas on how this filler tube is like this? Are these involved to replace? I broke top of dipstick off today.

Part number for the tube should be YL5Z-6754-AA
Should fit 1998-2006 3.0l Ranger
But discontinued

Best bet is wrecking yards

No not hard to remove or install
One bolt on exhaust or head holds it, should be easy to see where it attaches
Once bolt is out pull up on the tube and wiggle/spin it a bit, it SLIDES down INTO the block in a hole above oil pan, usually next to or behind motor mount so can be hard to see AFTER you pull out the old one
Then slide in the new one

It can be easier to put dipstick IN the tube, then put it down to where the hole is, the dipstick is smaller so will often "find the hole" first then you can push it down so the tube goes in the hole

Not sure what you mean by "the filler", oil filler is on the valve cover, passenger side usually

Shaving the dipstick plastic so it would insert, is putting the dipstick in to far now and not reading oil level correctly, now when it reads full you're probably 2 quarts low.

No I put in 4.5. You misunderstand. The dipstick was resting on the tube. Not sealed. Yours partially inserts in a snug way. Up to the rib on the plastic.

Is it ok to disconnect the bracket holding the oil tube and to slightly move the tube to the left to get at the spark plug for removal?

Yes, but don't bend it or it will break off at the block end, try twisting it a bit to change its angle
