I was thinking the other night that to top of the line rangers should have a very good chance against the base mustangs in a 1/4 mile, 2010 and older. we both have the 4.0 v6, 5 spd tansmission, auto or manual. ranger has 4.10 with limited slip, and i think the mustang has 3.73 and an open diff. i dunno who has the weight advantage, but it should be a close race.

 

The mustang has better weight distribution, and can hook up better than our pickups. Plus our engines are tuned the same. The transmissions aren't the same either. Mustangs are setup for highway driving and high speeds, Rangers aren't

a 2wd 4L 5 speed ranger with stock size tires againts a bone stock 05+ v6 mustang is pretty much dead even depending on gearing

 

Get a tune and youll be good against a bone stock v6 mustang.

I think a 4.0 Ranger could easily take a 3.8 Mustang. My 3.8 Mustang is slooooooooooooow

 

yeah v6 stangs are slow....
2005-2010 v8 stangs, stock, are dogs. they are just so heavy.

 

if it was the 3.8 V6 you would win, if its the 4.0 SOHC, you will lose. they are quik

 

you would need a 01+ regular cab manual 2wd Ranger with a programmed 4.0, good street tires, and appropriate gearing. A RARE combo. And a shift kit would be nice too.

 

I had an 06 V6 pony, and my truck feels almost as quick. It'd be a close race if both drivers were on their game.
