Is the Ranger going away?

I read a piece on my homepage that Ford is going to stop selling the Ranger in the U.S. The reason being you can get a stripped down F150 for about the same price. Anybody got any info on this?

E-mail Ford, hopefully the marketing department will take notice. The new Ranger that we don't get offers two different small diesels, and a crew cab, I would thing fuel economy would be close to 30 mpg. with good torque.

I emailed Ford twice when I first heard about the Ranger taking a bullet. They weren't exactly rude, but they weren't exactly helpful either. I asked them "Why don't you put the new mustang engine in it...etc?"

I got the reply back: "We have many good options to choose from, take a look at the Transit..."

WTF, as if the Transit is a comparable replacment for the Ranger, and like I would spend a dime of my money on that oversized clown car.

I digress though, this dead horse is nothing but a pile of bones now...

Ya' never know

Ford cares about money, if they think there's a buck to be made they will go after it. They dropped the Thunderbird, then came out with that retro T-Bird to tap into the baby boom generation's wallets. They were wanting to replace the Mustang with the Probe 'till they were bombarded with letters and e-mails, kept the Fox bodied car for a few more years and later made the retro- Mustang (former owner of 89 Fox bodies GT that was good for 300k miles...price on the retro is way too high for me).

I feel that applies to any car manufacturer, or any company/business for that matter. They wouldn't exist if they weren't trying to make a buck. And of course thats good for us because ultimately, as the consumer, we have the power! SO there is hope for a Ranger resurrection afterall, maybe a second coming in the years to follow. That is, as long as we continue to show an interest, and keep on those dumbass Ford execs with emails spelling out our desires. Though, I can't help thinking that if Ford kept updating this platform with new engines and better suspension, we would have one sweet mini truck on our hands.

I didn't know that Ford was going to banish the Mustang for good. What the hell were they thinking??? Thats like the heart and soul of their company. Would have died out for sure if they went through with it.

PS Met a guy at the grocery store yesterday who had a 4 cylinder ranger with 300k on the odometer ,think it was a 2000. His was just a little work truck, but I thought it was cool to have that kinda miles on it. He said all his buddies love the Ranger. It was great seeing that kind of appreciation.

They were going to hang the Mustang badge on the Probe, enthusiasts let them know that would not be acceptable.

I’m buying a Toy next, 4 dr, maybe they will have a 50 MPG Diesel by the time I get there.

Ford in their Customer Wisdom, have decided for us, we should buy an F150 that we do not want.

Every E-Mail I have got from FORD has suggested I look at their F150 Line, I do not want a bigger truck than a Ranger, w/ 4 drs, a diesel, 5sp, and 50 mpg, leather interior would work too !

My buddy just upgraded from his pos s10 to a like new tacoma TRD. It is a really nice truck. Though just fyi, the stereo sucks monkey b****. I think jbl makes the speakers for toyota, but even so that things about as loud as my ipod with a mini speaker. He cranked the volume all the way up. I was like "dude is that thing even on???" You'd think for 26k plus that they could put some better sound in it. In any case, thats probably going to be my next truck as well, seeing as Ford can't get their **** together. I mean who are they to tell us how big of a truck we need. I have no need for a fullsize f150. ( though I do like the new engines in it) Hell, some of the forest trails I drive couldn't even fit a truck of that size without knocking the mirrors off it.

My .02 cents-they need to put that badass new eco-boost 6 banger in a ranger!

I have a feeling the new ranger is going to be awesome but I know I'm not going to be able to afford it so I got an 2011 ranger. Once their out for a while, I'll look into getting one. My guess is early 2013, for the new model.

I'll never buy another Ranger, already have one, don't see the need to get rid of it.

If I do get rid of the Ranger, I'll get an F150

That would be a sweet setup, and knowing this bunch, as soon as one of those Eco-Boost trucks gets totaled someone here will beat Ford to the punch!

I hadn't planned on buying one til spring. Then I learned of the demise. So I went ahead and got one.Fuel economy was the biggest factor so I got a 2wd XL 4cyl 5speed.Would have gotten 4WD if 4cyl was available,or reg.cab for that matter.I'm gonna drive this one into the ground.Although it won't see the abuse the previous ones had(what fun is 4cyl.2wd)

If I wanted an f-150 I would have purchased one. You may think different if the new ranger is what I think it's going to be

If it looks anything remotely like the global Ranger, I'll pass.

I asked

I already asked ford if they were thinking about putting the new ecoboost in it, and they completely ignored me. i mean of course they are not gonna tell me if they had plans anyway, but....

Ohh and x3 with the new ranger design. Call me old fashioned, but a truck needs to look like a truck. Not a coupe with a bed slapped on. My dream truck is a f250 circa '96. Right before they adopted that soft lined fish-looking design. lol
