I'm 99% sure your hood is fiberglass. I think 04+ are fiberglass. 03-older 2wd (non edge) has aluminum while 4x4 and 4x2 Edge had a fiberglass "powerdome".

EDIT: I'm not 99% sure anymore. Maybe 1% sure?

Really? I stand corrected. I would've assumed since they're all powerdomes now.

Yes 01-03 Edge models had the fiberglass hood. As did all 4x4 models of that generation. The OP's truck is an 05. I'm not sure what his hood is made of.

Fingers crossed that it's aluminum. That would sure make for a good ground plane for my cb install, since the cb antenna will be mounted right next to the hood.

I have an '02 4x4 and It a steel hood, heavy as hell too def not aluminum or f-glass. If you really want to be absolutely certain go get a magnet and if it sticks to the hood then its iron ( steel, tin) if it doesnt then its aluminum or f- glass

I don't have anything to take video or record sound because I'm at school but the hood feels pretty heavy. The hood doesn't feel as light as I would imagine fiberglass to feel but I've been wrong before.

I bet my 02 is steel.

However, I had a Mazda RX7 that had an aluminum hood. I didn't beleive it until I tried picking up a steel one. Yup, mine was aluminum!

Grounding to the hood isnt a good ground IMO...

finally someone(redneckstone) put some truth to the thread!

01-03 edge/xlt/fx4 (4x4s and 4x2 Edges) are all fiberglass
04+ is steel, no way they made it out of aluminum.

you said it zach,

ALL 01-03 powerdomes are fiberglass, and heavier than the aluminum 98-00 and 01-03 2wd hood.

the hood isnt a good ground, the ony thing connecting it is the two hinges that have rubber or nylon bushings in them
