Is the Ranger nearing extinction?

Yeah with the new Tacos on the road, Ford better step it up and quick. I myself have come to the time that I just need a bigger truck, and Dodge doing the lifetime drivetrain warrenty swung me over to them.....My Ranger will be being traded in for a Dodge 2500 quadcab with a Hemi in the not so distant future. If my needs didn't change though, another Ranger or whatever they will call it would be at the top of my list to buy. They have always got the job done, and I pushed them hard. All 5 of them!

that was a while ago.. i just dont see another ranger happening... i really dont. but my needs have changed as well, i have had 3 rangers and i love them as much as the next guy.. but its not as logical anymore for ford to make new "rangers." they will make something new, but not a "ranger."

I thought I would never say it but my friends new taco is very sweet. 4 doors, room enough for a big guy like me in the back and he can still haul his huge ATV, which I couldn't do with either of my rangers. Ford needs to wake up and redo the ranger. I think there is a market for a compact and a midsize if ford would get there stuff together. Theres a lot of compaies and people that want something small and just need a truck for whatever and need something like the ranger. Theres a lot of people that need something a little bigger but don't want or can't afford a F150, those people are buying taco's.

In the latest issue of Off-Road Phil Howell explains that the only true compact trucks left are the Ford Rangers and the Mazda B-Series. I'll sorta summarize what he says. He says that the midsized trucks aren't very different from full size. They get the same gas mileage and they have a little less space. He also mentions that there are rumors that 2009 will be the last year for the Ranger. He says that they should redesign them and keep them compact and not to discontinue them. "Improving does not mean enlarging". The factories need to crank up their computers and start designing compact trucks and make them fuel efficient and powerful, (just like back in the day). He also says that soon the mighty American dollar will vote on their truck of choice. A small pickup will fill the needs of most truck owners, and for those who must have a fullsize truck will continue to buy them, but the majority will win. His article sounds exactly like us. Re-design the compact Ranger and it will sell because those gas guzzling fullsize truck owners probably don't have much left in their wallets. It's under Off-Road Notes in the beginning of the mag (page 6) if you decide to read one in the store.

Well if 2009 is the last year then I'm not sure what else they will do for a revamp. Some interior changes maybe? When I went looking for my Ranger they kept pushing me on the F150 and that the Rangers future was not clear. I flat out told them I am not in the market for a full size and that the Ranger were the only ones left that can offer me a small truck for a small price. I had them search all over the data base and hardly any dealers are carrying new Rangers. So I found my 2004 and I'll stick with that until we find out what in the heck is going on with our trucks in the future...

It's dead in 08 unless they are building them elsewhere. They are already deciding what to do with the St. Paul plant after it closes in 08. Developers want it, but they are trying to get the government or Ford to foot the bill for the enviromental cleanup required. For those that haven't been there it is right on the Mississippi in a beautiful location that would be ripe for million dollar condos. Oddly enough it is just down river from the bridge collapse.

calm down guys, lol i was not implying that i hate the 04+ models.
I like them, but it still does not make sense why they would redesign after only 3 years.
plus they dropped the flareside in 05. :(
