Icon14 The Ranger pulls through again! Towed a stranger home tonight...

I love my Ford Ranger...as under-rated as it is by most, mine never ceases to impress.

I was driving home today from college (90 mile drive), and I drive past an '03 5.4L Triton with no hazards flashing and parked on the grass and road shoulder...someone was haunched over the steering wheel, and I noticed a Texas A&M decal on the rear window...
Drove on for 10 seconds, decided to check up on em, and drove another 10 seconds to find an exit. Outer country roads, so cut through the muddy median (downgrade then a steep upgrade), and went on the feeder in the reverse direction. Got out about 20 yards away, walked over to her, and she rolled down her window with a huge sigh of relief when she saw my Aggie shirt. She was such a distressed, crying mess!

Popped her hood, and it sounded like she majorly blew a head gasket or like a fuel injector problem. Sounded like an outboard boat motor with a wierd + constant "backfiring" sound, and smelled slightly rich. Checked her hoses, made sure no fluids were dripping, and talked to her father on the phone (Ford guy = yes!)...

She was skeptical if I could tow her into Houston as it was getting dark pretty quickly. I slightly chuckled, plowed through the muddy mess again, hooked up her F-150, and towed her 30 miles to a well lit common intersection. Her father, another 100 miles away, met up with us when I stopped, and he towed her back home with his F-150 and pintle hook.

I took it slow, but her and her father were both surprised at the Ranger. Made really great time, good company, and I had fun towing her.

4.0L OHV V6 for the win!

Oh, and the father has an F-250 powerstroke turbodiesel, and 2 fully restored 1966 mustangs...he showed me pics! [/INDENT]

Hm...she was a cute freshman majoring in biomedical science...she had her wits, too...always a plus...I'd give her about 6.5 / 10 with Carmen Electra or Meghan Fox (the teen girl from the Transformers movie) as a 10 and...well, Rosanne = 0.

I don't think I'd tow someone 30 miles if they weren't a good looking girl..

2 miles, to a gas station or mechanic,

anything 2+ I hope I'm getting some cash in the end.

Got her number, of course! Just asked for it mainly when I was towing her, in case she had questions or what not. She's never been towed before, and yanked me back once 'cuz she got nervous and applied the brakes. Not too bad really...

Called her this morning, talked to her father about the problem of how the 5.4L have 3 threads in their plugs and how they are prone to blowing the plugs and how I think it may be a blown head gasket.

But yea, she's taking me out to lunch next week...

I would, and even though they offered me gas $, I didn't accept.

No, not at all. I would have helped her either way, hot or not, Longhorn or Aggie.

I'd get money if it was a dude though, and I'd probably tow him a couple miles if he wasn't a dip$hit.

Yea, she called me this morning to thank me again and to tell me that it really was the #7 plug back by the firewall (duh, 3, 4, 7, 8 = closer to firewall). I talked to some other Full size truck guys, and they all claim that is is actually pretty d@mn common for the 5.4L Triton 2 valves to spit em out like that. Evidently her damage is going to require major repair work...luckily her it was a company truck of her dad's and its under some sort of warranty/insurance with them...

She's insists on buying me lunch, which began as a joke on my end. The father told her earlier today on the phone that if I needed a favor, to just "please ask"... *wringes his hands together*

The 91, huh? Big ol' boxy... I'm reaching 185,000 miles my baby and shes strong as an ox (also aside from oil changes, sticky IAC's, dirty MAF's, and the occasional fuel injector cleaner)...

Any of you get a girl with your truck?

nice of you to lend a hand.

around here, if i were to pull up behind someone who broke down, i'd probably get shot by the person who is broke down, for fear of being killed themselves, lol.

the only time i ever stop is while it's snowing.
