installing aal's

just now ordered them from summit. these are the ones

Pro Comp 13120 - Pro Comp Add-A-Leaf Kits

i know this should be really easy but, they will get here wednesday, and have to be somewhere at 530 and can start at 3 when i get home. i just want as much knowledge going into this as i can get before hand. you know, just to make sure i am okay and no unexpected delay's. so if someone can kinda walk me through it, or any helpful hints would be great. thanks!

EDIT: DONE

read last post for info.

oh, and yes i know i still need to trim the excess bolt off.

My best advice for you is to not install them on wed. Give yourself more then a few hours incase you run into something unexpected.

I did a side at a time, helps to drop one side of the axle to take off and reinstall. I also had a highlift on the hitch to keep the hight and maneuover the axle.

good luck with trying to leave the leafs in the truck. I hope you give yourself plenty of time cause i think you might need it. But no matter what you will learn something and have a great feeling of self accomplishment.

I did one side taking the leafs off the rear shackle and then realized there was no reason too and did the other side with the main leaf bolted in and just clamped the pack and then loosened them after cutting the head off the center pin. I put the new AAL in and started C-clamping back down while tightening the new center pin down as I went. I would wait for a Saturday if possible, daylight will cut down on your curse word count as you go.

Edit: There is no undoing the old center pin with a wrench afik, my truck is a 2006 and it was siezed and had a round head. Make sure and have or borrow and angle grinder with a cutoff wheel, or at the least a dremel and a lot of discs. All your other steps look good.

okay. done. i will admit, it was a *****.

i left the leafs on, which is doable, but pretty hard to line everything up.

we had to cut the round end of the old centerpin to fit a wrench.

then just cut the nut off and pounded it through.

But, yes, aligning everything was really hard. I did that part alone, i was sitting on the floor, stradling the axle, yanking on it to they and get it to seed in with the factory block. With my other hand on the jack ready to release it lol.

Pics in a few minutes, there are like 5 or 6.
