I think some folks tried but failed.

We talked about this at one point and some of us feel it's like this:

1. Standard cab Rangers are VERY squirrely. The short wheelbase has a very short "time constant" of oscillation. I am one of the people who wrecked one and that was a BIG contributing factor. Those of us who have owned both know how much more stable the extended cabs longer wheelbase is.

2. Ford is risk-averse, and must be aware of the limitations of the standard cab Ranger's wheelbase and weight distribution.

3. Ford decided too much power in the standard cab was a lawsuit waiting to happen.

That's my take anyway. Either that or it just wasn't popular enough.

Too pricey to order a single cab 4 banger and a new 4L engine only isnt it? Unless money isn't an option, but in that case you probably wouldnt be looking at a ranger

A used 4 banger and a good junkyard engine would be an option. You'd need the tranny too maybe.

I just checked my 07 Ranger booklet, and you can order a 4.0 in an XL regular cab.

Yeah, I know this has come up before, so I just checked Fords website and there is no 4.0 reg cab short box version auto or manual. Only the 7ft bed has it......
