Riding around without my radiator cooling fan
#1
Well, it's been about 5 days since I took my fan off my truck. The efan hasn't arrived, but I was tired of the "wind tunnel" effect (VERY loud) and the lousy acceleration from the seized fan clutch.
I have to say, I like it this way! It's much quieter, and is certainly more peppy than with the failed clutch, though I'm not sure how much better than it was when the clutch was fully functional.
No overheating in the sub-60 degree weather we've had. It's warm for this time of year, but apparently the radiator is up for it even without the fan.
Hope the efan come in soon though. I think I'm going to email that guy and find out if he shipped it and all.

NC meet
I drove mine for about 3 days with no fan in cold weather and it didn't run any hotter than normal.I picked up about 1.5mph in the 1/4 mile and dropped about .2 sec from my et.It also ran much smoother.I am getting ready to put an e-fan on the Mustang.I am going to the track on Friday night so I am going to take the factory fan off.I trailer it to the track so running cool won't be an issue for me.

Gosh, it used to be that I had to drink to get wacko -- now I can get that way when YOU drink! I don't know if that's improvement or not...
So far, no problem. I have the fan in the bed and the shroud off and I can spin in back in place in a heartbeat -- but I haven't had to.
EDIT: Hi, Marc, long time no see! Good luck at the track! :)

If you're up for it, we'll see if some other locals are up to meet. If not, we'll just have you by for a quiet visit as you pass through, whatever you like.

Will do John.I don't have dates yet but I am thinking Feb-March possibly.A meet would be great or just hanging with you and the family would be fine.I will keep in touch as the time gets closer. To get back on subject, let us know gas mileage improvements if any. That would be my reason for doing it on the truck. On the Mustang it would be strictly for speed.

I think Ford did a pretty good job on the cooling system. Nice bigger radiator and good flow. So long as you're moving you still get some good heat transfer from the radiator, plus the cool weather helps. I bet in stop and go traffic u might see a raise in temp!!!
This makes me think the 16 inch fan will work for sure!!
