Shift question?

So I swapped manual transmission in 96 ranger just replace with junkyard match the problem is I’ve gottten it back together gotten the shifter in and it’s like the stub goes in too deep and binds up shifting I can hold up on it and it works fine. It’s not loose or floppy so I’m curious as to what’s wrong don’t really feel like it’s the bushings, but not sure where to start to fix it? And anyone got a slave cylinder hydraulic line quick connect clip just the clip I don’t wanna buy a whole cylinder new transmission has quick connect no clip old transmission has original slave no quick connector?

Welcome to the forum

What engine?

Are you using the shifter that came with the junkyard transmission?
2001 and up used different shifters

Article here on bushing replacement: https://www.therangerstation.com/Mag...bushings.shtml

At the end it shows the placement/order of each part, maybe one of the lower parts is missing(or worn) so shifter is not sitting up high enough

engine is 2.3l 4cyl

Nosir the replacement came with a plastic bag in the hole I placed my shifter stub out of original transmission. Kinda boggles my mind you can’t find just a clip for the slave cylinder line also. Know of anyone that made their own replacement clip with luck? I made one yesterday that is too thin and doesn’t hold the line far enough into the connector’s

Also once I had the old transmission out I took the top plate off to see what broke or why it failed on me. Basically all I found where what looks like a snap ring bent up and broke in the bottom of the case and the slider towards the front doesn’t slide fore/aft correctly can someone tell me what I’m looking at what went wrong and what do I do to rebuild it?

I replaced my entire line with a -3 braided line and JIC fittings.

It sounds like a synchro might have come apart. without seeing what exact part came out of it, hard to say. If you are in Coldwater MI I could rebuild that trans for you

No I’m in Coldwater Mississippi. I got it running just ain’t got a clutch atm gotta drive it like a big truck n speed shift! Got it back home where I can actually work on it n get it back together that line is really the only thing stopping me. A new problem to showed up yesterday driving was out the blue my engine starts sputtering missing while pushing the gas let off the gas motor idle just fine. Pulled over looked it over don’t see anything wrong. I pulled the throttle body open by hand let off it and motor went dead. Started back up ran fine for five or so miles to the house and as I’m pulling in my driveway it started missing sputtering again not sure what that is from I gotta go out here and start diagnosing that today and try to get a clutch line clip somewhere.
