Shimmy Shake in the steering wheel. 99 2wd

I am trying to figure out what is wrong with the 99 2wd ranger sport that I am working on and I need some help.

When you turn the wheel and are driving, its kind of random, the steering wheel shakes and the whole truck kinda shakes. Its something in the front end but i cant pin point it.

Everything is tight that I can find in the front end except one thing. The drivers side front tire has some top to bottom movement. I cannot decide if its the wheel bearing or the upper ball joint.

Would the upper ball joint do this if it was going bad?

My bets are on that its the wheel bearing anyone else agree with that thought or had that problem?

it is a ball joint......the wheel bearing being bad would allow top to bottom movement....the only thing in the truck that would allow that is the ball joints......

IMO, replace both while you have it apart.....cheaper to do the first time, and you wont really be able to tell exactly which one it is....

if so theres probly air in the power steering system. this was a common problem on 99 and 2000 models. drive it for a while and it will go away

see its my grandpa's truck, he drives it maybe and i am serious about this maybe 20 miles a week.

he said it was doing it really bad. then yesterday he said it did not do it and he could not get it to do it again.

maybe it is air.

the thing is i could not see the movement in the upper or the lower. I could not feel the play there either.

Flush the PS system to get the air out. Happened to my neighbor a few years ago. 99-2000 is notorious.

Esp if it only does it when turning.
