Should I do it? (get a Jeep?)

Alright I've been looking for the past month at getting a jeep or something pretty similar and ran across this:

2001 Jeep Cherokee in CHICAGO, IL 60639: Sport Utility Details - 264487673 - AutoTrader.com

It's got the exact setup I was looking to do if I were to get a jeep...roof rack, lifted, 33's, etc)

Does this look like a good deal? He has a lot of information about all the modifications done to it, but I'm pretty much clueless when it comes to the specifics. Does it look like a solid build to you guys?

Thanks!

Both. I'm still in high school so my time to travel to off-road spots is limited, however I have found a few places. My truck isn't really up to the standard of those places..and do to how much the truck has cost me I can't afford to lift it and whatnot to make it more suitable to off-road.

Plus like Jaaia said I have been wanting something to carry around more friends, etc.

I'd have to sell the Ranger. My parents won't pay a dime towards my car/truck..I bought the truck for just under $6k last year, got it paid off, and am hoping I can sell it for around 7k or so.

I don't keep up with the Jeep market, so I am not sure what those go for in that condition...however, it looks like a pretty good deal. 86k miles isn't TOO high for a used vehicle, and it looks decently built.

I say go for it. My friend has one on 31's and it'll go almost anywhere you point it, as long as it doesn't overheat. Which they tend to do pretty often.

Check the price. Also remember mods dont add value to a vehicle. If its all good then go for it.

Yeah you hear problems with 4wd unibodys but do you see any? Probably the only people that are complaining are the guys that offroad on nothing but rocks where 95% of the time you are on a skid plate.

oh no performance wise they're awesome!!!!

im just saying, if you dont reinforce it, the unibody flexes like a ****. better not open any doors when flexing, because they won't close in most cases till you un-flex it lol

my buddys xj was so bad, even after he was done flexing it, he couldnt close his rear hatch again. and when he finally got it closed, he couldnt open it again because it was kind of wedged in there.

and i guess for most poeple that isnt a problem

but then you hve the people who wheel their rig every weekend on stuff they probably shouldnt be on (like me) lol and then the problems happen

I hope I'm able to check it out. I'm actually heading up to Chicago right now to visit my brother and sister, so maybe I'll call the guy tomorrow to see where he is.

I know I could get the money for it...The problem will be convincing my parents I need to sell the truck I just bought not long ago. haha.

I believe you're stuck with a d30 front axle (weak) unless I am remembering wrong.
Looks like a fun rig though. I'm not sure if those need a slip yoke eliminator or not, but I would find out what exactly is under the rig and research it before buying it.
