Spied! 2012 Ford Ranger T6 Global Small Pickup

Thought we'd all find this interesting....

Spied! Ford Ranger T6 Global Small Pickup

Quote:

05-12-09

Ford hasn’t said officially what, if anything, will replace the U.S.-built Ford Ranger when production ends in 2011 but recent spy photos captured half a world apart point to a brand new, globally produced small pickup taking its place by 2012.

The engineering mules seen in these pictures might look like facelifted, double-cab versions of the Mazda BT-50 that’s sold outside the U.S. and shares a common platform with the Thai-built overseas Ford Ranger, but sources say their duct tape and cobbled bodies hide the mechanicals and running gear of Ford’s next-generation global small truck. That new pickup will likely mean all Ford Ranger models would be built on a single global platform, codenamed "T6" that's being designed in Australia. The current overseas Ford Ranger shares only its name with the Ranger built for North America.

The move is expected to mirror Ford’s recent product strategy to cut development costs by designing new vehicles on a single global platform, like the new Ford Fiesta compact car that recently went on sale in Europe and is promised for the U.S. next year.

Photographed T6 test trucks are configured in both left- and right-hand drive versions and are longer and wider than the current overseas Ranger. The mules are powered by diesel and gas engines. An industry source says the T6 Ranger for the U.S. will likely be powered by a new 1.6-liter four-cylinder direct injection turbocharged EcoBoost engine producing at least 175 horsepower and 180 pounds-feet of torque. Ford's 3.0-liter Duratorq TDCi four-cylinder turbodiesel engine, rated at 154 horsepower and 280 pounds-feet of torque, is expected to be carried over in the new truck for buyers outside the U.S.

We won't see that here. If you REALLY want a 4 door Ranger, you'll have to settle for the Sport Trac.......or move to another country.

We'll never see a 4 door Ranger in North America.........and we'll never see a diesel or a V8 from the factory in one either.

Sorry to rain on the parade, but all these threads just go nowhere and they get really old really quick. So the Ranger is suppose to go in 2011.......o.k, so? Not many of us really like where the Rangers have gone and many of us will not buy an 06+ because of this.

I'm all for my little Ranger, but I really think the time has come for it.

I dont think the time has come for the Ford Ranger......the time has come to update the damn thing. Bring it up to par with the other midsize pickups....bump the size up. Get it up to Tacoma, Frontier, and Dakota. Ford hasn't paid much attention to the Ranger at all since '95. Think about it.....how long has it been since there was a high selling vehicle that didn't get majorly changed in almost 15 years?!?!????

Ford messed up when they first planned on Axing the ranger. Then oil prices went up, then they decided to modify the current truck to meet the 2010/2011 safety specs, rather than continue the design process for a new ranger that meets the safety standards. (curtain airbags.)

New ranger should be Tacoma/Frontier size with coilovers up front, outside frame mounted rear shocks(like the 150), similar styling with the F-series trucks, maybe the 2011 SuperDuty's Super Chief styling. Not to mention a much much much needed interior redo. Rangers have the cheapest looking interiors of all the compact/midsize trucks out there right now. The dash is cirta 1995!

I still think people buy it because its cheap. I know that's why I bought mine. Ford probably says why change it if people still buy it.

I just read an article in truck trend stating that there may be two new truck platforms... the F-100 is still up in the air.
